3 out of 5 eggsVERY NICE PRODUCT

Pros: Having had the machine less than 24 hours, these are my initial observations:The SCX-4725FN is typical Samsung quality engineering and construction.

With this MFC, it may be necessary power on only when the need arises, since warm-up is almost immediate.

Drivers were installed by letting Vista find them on the supplied disk, and everything worked out fine for copying, scanning, and printing. NOTE: Am using graphics programs (Vista incl.) to access scanner.
The printing quality is excellent, even in the toner saving mode!

Also, speed of operation in all modes tested is impressive.

Have not had an opportunity to use the fax, but do not expect any hitches using that mode.

Cons: The only real problem has been an acrid odor smelling a bit like burning paint and plastic coming from the heat generating part of the machine. Hopefully it is part of the breaking-in process.
This is quite a departure from my little Samsung 2010 which I leave on all the time with no heat problems at all.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a very fine piece of equipment at a bargain price!
My main concern is the acrid odor mentioned above.
Because of that issue, my rating is three stars.
However, if the odor problem dissipates, the rating will be revised upward

1 out of 5 eggsKills Toner

Pros: Appeared to be a great value

Cons: Toner cartridge is supposed to get 3000 standard pages before it needs to be replaced; have owned this printer just over 2 months and printed 1534 pages and gone through 2 cartridges!!!!!!!!!!! That's a 75% LESS YIELD than I am supposed to get!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sammy MFC on a budget

Pros: This was a great buy - the day I placed my order with, I saw one at a local retailer for $100 more as an open box special! Small footprint, easy setup, hassle-free driver install under XP SP3, networkable...what more could you want? Toner save function is nice too.

Cons: None so far...but I haven't had to buy a toner cartridge yet.

Other Thoughts: Samsung quality comes through again - my monitors, printers, even my mobile phone...Samsung continues to impress me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat AIO Printer

Pros: Network administration is a great feature that allows complete configuration as well as performance information (toner left, pages printed, etc) from a browser rather than navigating the many menus on the printer. This was an unexpected plus on such an inexpensive printer.

Many utilities available from Samsung greatly simplify the operation and administration of the printer.

Cons: Installation via the setup guide takes some time, I found it much easier to just download separate drivers rather than use the included install CD.
No included USB cord - this was disclosed in the product information but I find it annoying that this trend is gaining traction. This is a common practice among many manufacturers, but I wish it would stop - until then, USB cables can be had very inexpensively it one does not go through the manufacturer - or best buy.

Other Thoughts: I replaced an ancient HP Laserjet 4 with this. It prints a quickly as a modern laser printer should and the network and fax functions work as they should. Scans are crisp and completed quickly, and the document feeder works very well, scanning 40+ pages in a matter of minutes. All of these qualities are those that any new printer should meet - although unfortunately many don't.

Does not have network scanning functionality...but that is not a con, as it was never claimed to have such a feature. Many people complain regarding this lacking; apparently they do not read very thoroughly.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this printer

Pros: Prints fast and easy to use.

Cons: Does not come with separate drivers. No duplex.

Other Thoughts: I love this printer. It's easy to set up and prints very fast. I had a Samsung 1710 laser before this. I pretty much wanted something like my old printer (fast and reliable), but with networking, copying, faxing, and scanning abilities. This is a perfect replacement. Setting up is actually easier if you just download individual drivers from Samsung's site and do your own network settings. I could not set up the printer initially by following the manual and using the driver CD that came with the printer.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Home Office MFC

Pros: Very easy setup on home network.
Very fast printing, good print quality.
Better than expected scan quality, better than my CanoScan Lide 60 flatbed.
Better than expected copier quality.
Sheet feeder works great.

Cons: Scanning software (SmartThru 4) is disappointing and confusing to use. Scanning from within applications using the TWAIN and/or WIA drivers brings up different, better, and more controllable scanning settings.

Other Thoughts: The printer is plugged into my wireless router with a static IP so that any wirelessly networked PC on my home network can print. It is also attached via USB to my desktop next to it for scanning. This is not an limitation (as stated in other reviews) for scanning as I need to be next to the machine anyway to feed the materials to be scanned.

Pros: The printer portion works great.

Cons: This printer is marketed with networking ability, but unfortunately you can only use it as a printer over the network. I have emailed Samsung and confirmed that there is no scanning support over a network for this device. What is the point of a multifunction device if all of the functions don't work? I am very dissappointed since the only reason I bought this was for network printing AND scanning. If I just wanted a network printer I wouldn't have purchased a multifunction device.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PMFC

Pros: Great all around MFC. Printing, scanning, fax, copying all work as they should and as you expect. Network printing works great and have been a huge time saver!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Network scanning would have been nice but not a deal breaker for me.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent home printer

Pros: Super quit while printing.
Network printing.
It just works out of the box. Very easy setup.

Cons: Will dim lights when just on, not even printing (- 1 egg).

Other Thoughts: I had a Samsung ML-1200 (which still works like new), and HP all-in-one (that broke after 3 months), and this printer has replaced both of them, saving space and frustration.
I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsseems pretty quiet to me

Pros: This is just an update, after having used this for about a month:
1) To me it seems pretty quiet for a laser printer in this price range. I have low-end Brothers that are much louder.

2) This thing is fast. It took me a while to realize it as I often only print a page or two, and I wait for the warm-up. But I recently printed 30 pages and it was great.

3) There have been no surprises thus far.

Cons: I'm guessing that toner will be expensive, as the replacement cartridge was $75, and they don't seem very big.
