5 out of 5 eggsFast printer and easy set up

Pros: I got this printer to print out business forms and flyers and the resolution of 1200 x 1200 makes for sharp B&W images and sharp very small type if needed.

The unit itself is not too big and I love having the screen and buttons off to the side where they are away from the paper unlike some other printers that have controls where the paper ends up after printing.

This printer is fast and starts up quickly. The rated 33 pages per minute is right on and prints quickly with no jamming or banding of the printed image. I get on average a start up time of about 6 seconds while warming up. After the warm up, it prints very quickly and sharp.

The color scheme is nice with light grey overall and dark grey on the right side where the buttons and screen is.

The toner is now more available and I have seen refills at less than half the cost of the factory toner cartridges.

I've had this printer for just a few days but so far it has been a very good printer. It is pretty quiet and from first plug in, ran without a problem with Windows 7 seeing it right away.
With Linux, the CD is a help in the advanced section of it to set the printer up.

Cons: The LCD screen is small and not back lit. It is very difficult to read the LCD screen in a dim lit room. IT would be nice to have a back light on the screen.

It does not come with a USB cord so if you are buying this printer, make sure you get a good USB printer cord.

Other Thoughts: I like this printer a lot. It does what it is supposed to do and does it fairly quietly. I like the quality of the printing at 1200 x 1200 and it does it without banding. It prints very fast and pumps out pages like there is no tomorrow.

Not sure on total pages from a toner cartridge and I will report back when that information becomes available along with any reliability issues.

I recommend this printer highly so far.

3 out of 5 eggsFast Quality prints expensive

Pros: Prints fast high quality prints that are easy on the eyes to read. Quiet too and setup was a breeze. Time to 1st print 5 sec or less.

Cons: Toner is expensive and oem/reman cartridges are hard to find locally. On line it is easier but still expensive and refilling your own toner has special requirements that if you make a mistake can cost you a cartridge. Cannot tell printer to continue printing once "replace toner" is on so ALWAYS HAVE SPARES if you have a critical job that requires hard docs. Tried using toner refills and chips that worked for 3 refills then bought a OEM replacement cartridge at $50/5000 pages that worked once and tried using replacement chips/toner with no luck.

Other Thoughts: Really a nice printer that was easy to setup on network and printed pages super fast compared to my old Samsung ML1710. Just understand that toner and cartridges offline are hard to find and if you run out of toner there is NO WAY to continue printing without installing a new cartridge. Local retailers do not have supplies locally as I found out. If you need a printer to print high volumes a couple of times a month this is a great printer as you will have time to order more toner cartridges. If you need to print alot every day it will get expensive fast.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded expectations

Pros: Flexible setup and connectivity. Fast printing and full duplex which is great for printing code, etc. I like the compact footprint for a workgroup-type laser.

Cons: Not really a con for me, but it lacks wireless connectivity, however it does have usb for wireless dongles.

Toner is not cheap, but the high capacity cartridge does seem to last quite a long time (for me at least).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat workhorse

Pros: I keep stuffing reams of paper thru it. My wife thanks me all the time, because
now she can print from her laptop instead of having to get on my computer. I like it because now I print from my tablet or my phone. It has been reliable and does fair quality for an excellent price. Set up was easy. Everything works like it should.

Cons: may need to give it time to wake up, but very economical to just leave on 24/7
then it is ready to use any time you need it.

5 out of 5 eggsMy 2nd purchase for my office

Pros: Really great unit.
Can't say more.

Cons: Local setup easy.
Network setup puzzle.
But it works at end.

Other Thoughts: Price down little bit more please.

4 out of 5 eggsUse newest drivers

Pros: Nicely built prints duplex very well usb and network hookup.

Cons: Lights blink when it starts up. No backlit lcd.

Other Thoughts: Win7 64 bit installed drivers automatically and seemed to work fine until I printed a 30 page double sided document and the last few pages came out all black. I printed a test page and it came out fine. I then loaded the drivers from Samsung's site and the printer has worked fine since then. The latest drivers were loaded using Windows update feature and also has worked fine since then.

5 out of 5 eggsSeems good so far

Pros: Works with Linux (Kubuntu 12.04), read my other thoughts. The wait time until the first page prints seems shorter than 6.5 seconds. Decent printing speed. Easy network setup. Smaller than I thought it would be. The printer's web interface seems fairly complete.
Haven't had it long enough to know if it really is worth 5 stars.

Cons: The linux drivers from Samsung did not work for me. They look for older libraries, so no GUI - only command line. Then the driver couldn't find a critical library (libmfp) that it installed - total fail.

Other Thoughts: First thing I did was go to the printer menu and made the IP address static. Now I can look inside my printer from Firefox. I'm going to track the actual pages per toner cartridge and see my real cost per page.

Used the windows drivers from the Samsung website instead of the ones on the disk that came with the printer. Worked just fine, even changed this to the default printer.

The Linux drivers from Samsung didn't work. Followed the directions from thread 341621 on the ubuntu forums to install .deb's. Went to CUPS (localhost:631), added the printer to use the socket:// connection, not tcp, and picked the "ML-3300 series"driver from the list. There is no ML3312 driver.

Now I can print from anywhere in my house.

I hope this printer lasts a long time. If it does then it will be a great deal considering that the toner costs more than the printer.

3 out of 5 eggsBittersweet

Pros: Fast, seems well built, uses paper cassette to protect paper from dust, reasonable toner cost, LCD and Eco mode

Cons: Printer was defective out of the box and very poor support from Samsung

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to like this printer. It seems a lot better built than the comparable HP printers and it was cheaper than the Brother model I usually recommend to clients.

I purchased it from Newegg half off, for a client of mine. Out of the box, it printed black horizontal lines down all the pages. I decided to give Samsung a chance to fix the problem before I returned to Newegg. I spent over 3 hours on the phone calling and getting calls from both Samsung's national support line and their printer repair contractor, Barrister. I am very displeased with the Samsung's support and unwillingness to fix the issue. I think I will return this and buy a Brother, like I should have in the first place.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware the Toner cost

Pros: The printer is nearly free...well less than 100 bucks.

Cons: The toner cartridge has an imbedded chip that "kills" the cartridge after the 5,000th print regardless of how much toner remains. There are some OEM non-USA cartridges out there that may or may not work so you are better off sticking with the genuine product. The genuine product costs an average of $125 which means your end cost to print a ream of paper is $12.50. = not such a good deal after all.

Other Thoughts: I've used Samsung printers personally and in the businesses I've worked for more than 10 years... they are excellent products but their consumable costs have always been very high.
