SAMSUNG SCX-4729FD MFC / All-In-One Up to 28 ppm in A4 (29 ppm in Letter) Monochrome Laser Printer

Pros: Another follow-up. Still having to call Samsung over and over. They finally agreed to replace the printer after the service company refused to come back out to my location. It has been 5 days and still not a word from them on when I will be getting the replacement. I am going on a month and a half with no printer, copier, or fax machine. Their customer service is horrible.

Cons: Poor customer service.

Pros: Price

Cons: This is my folow-up review. I am going on 6weeks now without a printer. I had a tech come to my office... Could not fix. Then they wanted to replace the toner which I had to wait two weeks for... That didnt work either. Now they want to sent another tech out!! They wont replace the printer! Based on what I paid, they cant have more than $30 or $40 in cost for this printer. The gas along is more than the printer cost!!! They have horrible cust scv.

Cons: Worked great until it stopped working. I have been getting the run-around from Samsung for 3 weeks now. I have had a technician out who said the printer needs to be replaced. Now they want to replace the toner. They won't just send a new one, I have to go to a UPS store and "exchange it". I have now been without my printer for 3 weeks and have to wait 7-9 days for a replacement toner cart, which probably won't fix the problem. Then I have to wait another few weeks for a replacement printer.

Other Thoughts: The price was good... only paid about $119, but their customer service stinks.

Pros: Small footprint, great small office capabilities, and good price for what you get.
We have had great responses from customers that we have installed this at that need all-in-one capabilities.
Recommended for offices of 1-4

Cons: The starter toner is rated at 1,000 but you only get about 700 prints and it is a little more expensive to run when it comes down to a per copy/print charge.

Pros: This thing is fast, both to warm up and in printing. It does network scanning, even with Linux. Seems solidly built. Linux driver installation is a snap (even though it does produce a very ugly print window when printing).

Cons: I still haven't found where to set the outgoing fax name and number. Samsung's reply to another review gives a username and password that I might be able to put into the web interface and set it there. There's a menu on the keypad of most fax machines to enter this information, but not on this one, at least that I've found.

The User's manual, even on the CD, is sorely lacking. What's I've seen is just a curt "how to install" and the "Advanced" section is just an equally curt "how to install on Linux and OS X"

Maybe it's just me, but I expected to put fax documents in face down, they need to be face up. I had to print a little label and stick it on so everyone in the office would put them in the right way.

The paper tray actually sticks out from the back with Letter-sized paper. Clearly a money-saving design decision that makes no sense. You'll need another inch of depth compared to the actual specs.

Other Thoughts: What I really got this for is faxing from and network scanning to a handful of Ubuntu machines, and it works great for that, as long as you install the Linux software from the website.

It uses the SANE interface, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues with modern Linux distros, although on Ubuntu 12.04LTS, the installation stops and whines that SANE isn't installed. It is, so just hit proceed anyway or whatever it says, and it works fine.

Pros: Easy Mac setup, little tricky network setup, but no problems if you follow the directions.

Cons: Nothing so far.

Other Thoughts: Inexpensive laser printer/all in one that gets the job done. Prints fast, sets up fast, I like it.

Pros: Seems to be a real fast laser printer and fax.

Cons: Customer support is as always horrible, they don't know the product and read from a manual. it comes with printer software that is useless with regards to actually setting up the printer. wants a user name and password that NO ONE at Samsung seems to know of or know. you shouldn't sell a product without the proper support structure and if you include software it better work and everyone should know how to use it.

According to the Owner's Manual, the user/password should be admin/sec00000 by default.

Pros: Jam free operation.

Cons: Expensive to use. Original cartridge was rated at 1000 copies and I got 750. My previous laser printer gave me 6000 to 6500 copies per cartridge and cartridge cost less. Should have stuck with that brand. Samsung customer chat is a joke. Rep. had little product knowledge I had to solve problem myself. Impossible to rate on Samsung site.
