Pros: Quick printing. Tons of features and templates available both in PC/Mac software and built-in. I like the WYSIWYG P-touch Editor 5 software a lot & use it on XP and OS X. The OS X version isn't neutered like a lot of proprietary hardware apps out there. It even prints barcodes. Big clear display with great backlight. Nice keyboard. Takes lots of different reasonably priced labels. Plug in the wall or use standard batteries. Included carrying case. Despite all the features it's pretty easy to use.

Cons: I wouldn't say the print quality is spectacular but it's definitely "good enough" and does a decent job even of simple graphics. Despite the carrying case the unit isn't super portable. The unit is somewhat large, eating up desktop space (see other thoughts) and the carrying case is about the size of a small briefcase or typewriter. Unless you select "chain printing" you're going to waste nearly an inch of ribbon on each label. If you don't want to use AC it uses a ton of batteries

Other Thoughts: The labeler will stand on the rear end so it stands vertically on your desk (with the keyboard in the air). This significantly reduces it's footprint on your desk when using it as a USB printer (very nice actually). I didn't bother installing anything from the CD- the included versions were totally out of date. The downloads from the Brother website worked without a hitch. The only difference between the 2700 and 2710 is the carrying case. If there's a big price difference buy the 2700. A labeler is something you want to always have out and on hand - not stored in a case. If you need something to take when you travel you should get something smaller. I've had other cheaper labelers that simply couldn't handle any kind of volume. I hope the pricetag here isn't just for better features and display and the unit will last. 4 eggs because of text quality, ribbon waste for individual labels, and general bulkiness. I'm happy though so far.
