Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: First of all I bought this elsewhere, Newegg didn't have it at the time. It is so much better than the HP 7310 and HP Pro 7680 that I have owned. It is amazing how fast the color printing is (just as fast as the black and white), and it is so crisp and vibrant on the colors. I use Vista and have no problems with drivers and scanning like I did with the HP AIO's. Brother also has the same print engine on the MFC-9840 but also includes wireless, duplexing, a 14" scanner bed, more ram, and a 50 page ADF versus the 35 on the 9440. I bought the 3yr extended warranty to be safe.
Cons: None to speak of. It is a little big but I still have it inside a cabinet with a pull out drawer.

Solid balance of features which work

Pros: While the 21ppm is optimistic, the printer, copier, and scanner functions are quick overall with very acceptable quality. The printer allows for concurrent connections over both Ethernet and USB, making it possible for laptops to print wirelessly while the desktops can share a switch and enjoy the MF's like scanning. Very happy with the light-weight minimally-invasive software.
Cons: There are no OEM toners, making consumables more expensive than I'd like. There is no simple way I've found to make B&W printing default in some applications, like MS Office and email, while allowing color to be default for proofs in Illustrator/Photoshop/inDesign. This would save toner and make me happy. Color isn't quite as lush as the HP's.
Other Thoughts: We're using the 9440cn in a mixed environment of PC's and OSX machines. Laptops run wireless over Airport Extreme/Expresses and can easily print to USB without drivers. The desktops are using the supplied drivers and can scan-to, fax-to, or FTP files as well as print. We replaced a couple of similar HP products because the HP AIO software packages were so buggy. The Brother software seems to work better.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Bought this for a small home office and couldn't be more pleased. It was my first time networking a printer and it went flawlessly. Software and documentation are great.
I'm quite pleased with the quality and speed. Its definitely the best I've seen out of the printers in its price range. All the functions work great so far, although I don't have a fax line so I haven't tested out the fax feature yet.
Cons: Absolutely none. I got exactly what I was hoping for.
Other Thoughts: Newegg's price blew away the competition by over $140 dollars AND I got free shipping. Delivered on time, Newegg wins again!

SO Glad I Finally Gave up on HP

Tech Level: average - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Ink lasts long, prints quickly, rarely bunches up in the feeder (big plus compared to the many HP all-in ones I've had)
Cons: Ink may be expensive. I actually don't know for sure because it's July 2009 and I bought the printer in December and I'm just replacing the ink for first time.
Other Thoughts: I have to say I love it. As a real estate agent I really needed a reliable all-in-one. This is it! Hope I'm not jinxing it.

Awesome scanner

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This all-in-one is an excellent small-business machine. I have 3 clients using them and they all are solid workhorses. The auto-feed scanner is excellent, and the software makes it easy to scan full docs in PDF format. Toner seems to last a long time.
Cons: The windows software scans an entire document prior to any saving of temp files happens, so large scans (20+ pages in black & white) may run out of memory, regardless of how much ram your machine has. The Mac OS X version of the software saves after each page, so you don't run into the same issue. The prints aren't as vivid and crisp as some printers, but good enough for documents that do not include pictures. The fax works well, however the send confirmation printout was a little confusing to enable. In fact, I enabled it and don't remember how.
Other Thoughts: I wouldn't purchase 3 of these over the last year of I didn't like them. The software is easy to use and configure. The scanner is excellent, saving time due to it's efficient auto-feeder. My clients love these things.
