2 out of 5 eggsPoor usability

Pros: Prints clean labels quickly.
No warm-up time

Cons: - Zero warning when the batteries run low -- it starts spitting out incorrectly printed labels. Given the price of tapes, not good. Come on guys at Brother, how much would it cost to put a low battery LED on this device?!
- Since there is a USB cable, why not use rechargeable batteries?
- Software crashes now and then, mostly when trying to print too many labels quickly back to back
- Software resizing if far from intuitive, particularly when including logos.

Other Thoughts: Why in the world did Brother save a few bucks on the battery management side?!

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Solid Device..

Pros: Decently well built, small footprint, & easy to change tapes. I was debating to buy another at the nice sale price of $30 so I don't have to swap .5 and 1", but that is just me being lazy and I am saving for a $400 model for shipping labels.

The laminated stickers are decent quality and I have had no problems sticking them to metal or LDPE/HDPE plastic, even with the standard TZ tapes.

You can insert graphics and custom fonts at a price cheaper than models where you are locked into "system fonts". The software isn't bad for creating multiple designs and switching between them to print with little tweaks as needed.

Cons: Use the software and "chain printing mode" to avoid the wasted tape in between each label. When you are on the last label in a batch, uncheck chain printing so the last label isn't left inside. Yeah, this is kind of annoying but less so if you print many labels at ones.

There's about 1/4 inch wasted space (top+bottom) and (left+right) and I wish I could push out more to the edges. Another reviewer mentioned using the printer driver with 3rd party software, so I might try forcing the issue there.

Other Thoughts: Brother is/was supposedly good for Linux drivers but this software is Mac/Win only and I didn't figure out yet if it might work on Linux. I'm still locked in to Win for some software where I use this printer, so I guess that is okay for now.

Reading the help files, there is supposed to be a way to read a database and pull in values to predesigned fields, but I am not to the point of figuring that out yet. I wish there was more guides for stuff like this or better hardware/software before jumping to the $1,000 range.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty nice

Pros: Very easy to use, Labels look fantastic. Simple black and white, pictures, not so much...

Cons: Label tape runs out fast, it's the old printer ink trick. Also a fair about of tape is wasted for each label as others have said. It's not huge, but often it's more than you want.

Other Thoughts: If you are creating a lot of labels this is nice, but it might be worth looking at sticker inkjet paper or something similar.

1 out of 5 eggsIf it doesn't work you are on your own

Pros: The software was easy to use and installation was fairly easy. The first label came out great.

Cons: The label maker only worked for 1 day and then stopped working after destroying a brand new tape. Tried to contact Brother tech support twice and had no response so I decided to send back for replacement which Newegg switch to a refund which I should be grateful for. In total this non-purchase cost me cost of shipping (both ways), a brand new tape and hours of frustration.

5 out of 5 eggsNice labeler

Pros: Computer helps making labels very easy, just what I was looking for !

Cons: Labels are pretty expensive!! I know they could do a little better on pricing. I understand they have to make a profit but they could probably sell these for about half
and sell 10 times what they sell now!!!

Other Thoughts: Still a nice labeler . I paid the right price for the labeler 29.00
I will be able to buy a few rolls of labels at that saving!
Its like satellite dishes they give you equiptment knowing you have to buy the programming!

4 out of 5 eggsGetting Organized

Pros: Works straight out of the box, no hassle at all. Not really discussed but it either uses a plug in transformer or can be used with 6AA batteries I'm guessing for use with a laptop.
Prints quickly and quietly.

Cons: Only the 3/4" to an inch of header that it wastes when it prints every time. It trims this section off, I am sure due to not bein able to print there, but still 3/4 of an inch adds up quickly.

Other Thoughts: Using it to try and get organized. Being able to get two lines of text on the 1/2 inch tape is great. Just used it to mark motherboards with the maximum cpu that they could use so I can maximize the MB with the respective cpu's I have sitting in a drawer. Which if you use http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/index.html it is real easy to figure out what the maximum chip is.

5 out of 5 eggsTiming is everything...

Pros: Compact with small footprint on desk. No sweat connecting to Win 7 x64; went out and found the driver for me (didn't use the CD installer). Quiet during operation. Wide selection of formats and color combinations.

Cons: TZ tape refills can be spendy, but that's the cost of quality. Think twice, print once

Other Thoughts: Had to pounce on it a week ago when it was $40 off! Thanks Newegg!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat waterproof labels

Pros: Thermal transfer labels don't run when wet like inkjets. I use this to label bottles o' homebrew and it sticks well to the bottles but comes off easily and neatly.

Easy to use software.

Cons: Wish it printed 3 inch labels.

Other Thoughts: Get the one inch label tape for larger items. Also, I went to the website and downloaded the driver first, I think that's a good bet. It will be the latest and you can use it with other programs then. T

5 out of 5 eggsBrother PT-2430PC Label Maker

Pros: Excellent product. Great to order and get something that exceeds your expectations! Easy to use. Easy to layout labels.

Cons: Seems like slight waste of label at beginning but with printing options, the waste is minimal.

Other Thoughts: New Egg Rocks! Great on line ordering... fast processing of order and just good to do business with.

5 out of 5 eggsA handy little tool

Pros: Allows customization of printing labels easily using your PC

Cons: Wastes 1" of tape per label printed

Other Thoughts: It's worked as advertised for me on here. It does waste 1" of tape per print and there's nothing you can do about it. I use it mostly to place product key codes directly onto disks. None have fallen off.
