Pros: Supports windows 7, duplex printing is nice, the output quality and speed are a big improvement over my decade old Tektronix phase 550 that recently died.
The non duplex ADF is not bad, I ran through some random stuff to test it out and it was 40 pages before I had a jam.
Cons: After printing my 7th page, I got an error about "No Waste Toner"
To get to the perfectly brand new waste toner, I had to remove the two removable parts above it, the Belt and Drum Units, 3 times to clear out this bogus error message, plus several power cycles at each attempt
the Duplex unit is for printing only, no scanning, faxing or copies can be double sized, the ADF will not get both sides of an original.
I was going to get one with a true duplex but Newegg deactivated the one i was looking at, when Brother replaced or discontinued that model. MFC-9840CDW would be the way to go if you need to have that a true duplex (ADF scanner)
Other Thoughts: The scan to ftp works best with my Samba file servers.
I setup two windows 7 64 bit stations with what came with the printer then downloaded the updated full windows 7 (64bit) drivers, the scan to PC feature would work for a while then stop, with the windows firewall up or down, scanning to my fileserver (via ftp is working perfect)
As expected, network printing from Windows 7 works very well. Scanning to USB works well. printing from USB is kinda slow

A winner on all points

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Points: easy install (and my network is complex and Norton-walled), well-documented setup that covers most all bases. Print speed a bit faster than rating; color output quality among best I've seen from laser for both grafix (simple) and fotos (gradient); text output sharp and consistent down to 4 pts; network print and (gasp) scan just plain work (see other happy review); duplex operation quiet (way better than big Xerox), quick--and unlike some duplex printers doesn't sound as tho machine is about to turn upside down. Ships w/ standard laser cartridges (not half full). Energy save mode painless in and out. Single sheet feed (for, e.g., checks, stamps, forms) simple and reliable. Front USB port (to print images direct from thumb drive; haven't used yet). Paper handling robust (test with crumpled sheets, invite misfeed or jam: this machine feeds where others won't).
Cons: Not really a con, but a caution: most color lasers are heavy; this one's no exception (75 lbs).
Other Thoughts: Came to this machine reluctant and skeptic from really bad experience with bottom-of-line Brother mono laser MFC (7820N), which did nothing well (setup, network operations--print, fax, copy--all). But other users & reviews pushed me, Newegg's sale price did the deal. On all points where 7820 failed, this one just does it. Other heavy factor: in-store comparison & talk with repair guys re: this machine vs. HP. Then, of course, there's Newegg: quick reply and order processing, in my shop on time. Of course, real test: 8 months from now.

True Network Scanning!!

Pros: The basic stuff is all good. Prints swell, faxes swell. But the thing I really like about this MFC, is it lets you scan from an IP. Meaning the scanning function works over, uses TCP/IP. Not the usb like most of these MFC's, or conversely installing some humungous client on each workstation. Or trying to setup a bunch of workstations from a 1/2 LCD screen on the printer. Nope, right out of the box, installing a fairly reasonable amount of drivers, this things gives solid scan functionlity. I may have skipped the CD install or bloatware stuff. I usually do so without a lot of thought any longer.
Cons: None. I have had tremendous success with Brother machines over the years (I am an IT sysadmin/Mgr.) Don't know why more printer companies don't do this scan over IP.
Other Thoughts: I am buying another for a diff workgroup in my company right now actually.
