4 out of 5 eggsGood home laser printer

Pros: Cheap price, good print quality for black and white also for color pages. Wakes up and prints in less than a minute, still loads faster than old Inkjet printers. Easy to setup when using the provided CD

Cons: Color printing looks a bit grainy when lots of colors are present but its still decent enough for home use.

Other Thoughts: Read that using 96 bright paper will help with color printing clarity, will try this later on. Satisfied with printer for home use, does not take up much more room than our old inkjet printer

2 out of 5 eggsHard to set up

Pros: It seems like a good quality printer, and consumables are reasonably priced

Cons: Setup was a bear. First, "wireless" only works if you use WEP, not WPA2, and I'm not changing my whole network configuration for a printer, so it has to stay on a wire. Also, you can't even set that up without plugging it in via a wire and changing things through the web interface, so you may have to find a laptop or carry the printer around. Second, the setup was very dicey. I've installed it on 4 computers now, and only one went off without a hitch. The others, it either refused to run the setup, just producing a blank screen from the flash program. I had to try several variations of "Run as administrator", searching down for the specific (English language) install instead of the main one, and ignoring error messages, before I finally got something to work. Finally, you HAVE to install it via USB first, then delete that printer, and reinstall as a network printer. A lot of trouble! Brother products have always been great for me, but I can't recommend this one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value!

Pros: NICE color printer. Great bang for the buck!

Cons: Hella Big! Instructions horrible to set up as wireless. Just plug into your router then put in the CD and let the software work.

5 out of 5 eggsVery quick set up

Pros: I paid about half price for the printer -- a very good deal indeed.

I chose the completely-wireless setup method (which is considered the advanced method by the manual) rather than hooking it up to the computer or router directly. The wireless setup was completed quickly -- my DIR-655 router and the printer had no issues with the Wi-Fi Protected Setup method.

The print quality is pretty good; certainly better than I expected. It's not a photo or professional quality printer, but it does a lot better on pictures than my Samsung CLP-315 (which it replaced) did. It responds to print requests quickly, and the software doesn't appear to be bloatware.

Cons: It's a bit loud, but within tolerable limits.

3 out of 5 eggsit works but slow

Pros: it works

Cons: it print slow, i was printing a 17page tax return in black only, it has an initial warm up time as all laser printer does but after every 3 pages of print, it will take a 5 to 10 second nap then continue printing, so the advertised 17ppm is false advertisement. My last laser printer was a really old Konica Minota color laserjet and it would just keep printing nonstop until the job is finished. If you are planning to print many pages, it will take pretty long as it will take frequent naps so you should get a printer that has higher ppm.
The whole point of laserjet is the speed of printing, but this one is a lazybone laserjet that likes to take naps all the time.

1 out of 5 eggsPrinter was defective... will cost me $78 to send back. :-(

Pros: It did not catch my house on fire.

Cons: Does not print very well. There is lines in the print and the prints are very dark. If you print a blue, it comes out dark.

Other Thoughts: The printer was on sale when I purchased.... the cost to return is more than half what I would get back.

Issue is that newegg allows returns to CA.... even though, to save on shipping, they shipped from NJ. Would be fair if I could return the item to NJ myself or ship to NJ.

There is a reason I don't purchase items like this online... I was stupid.

4 out of 5 eggsHL-3070CW Printer

Pros: Bought this printer because I have found Brother printers are very right for price and, so far, more reliable than pricier "name brand" models. I bought this for those occasions when color is absolutely necessary (for people who can't follow instructions in b&w or where you need screen captures to illustrate something).

Cons: This printer is a real heavy weight. You need to think out where you're going to put it BEFORE you bring it into the house or office. The wireless setup using the little LED screen is impossible. Tried following the instructions, but they seem to run you in circles and don't get you where you want to go. Just install the software, connect an ethernet cable during setup, go to the home page as directed by the software and set it up to your needs. Much easier. I use it wirelessly, so it can be done.

Other Thoughts: This printer isn't one of those expensive, super duper, dye sublimation printers, so expect your photos to be less than spectacular. For best color printing (especially photos) use 96 brightness (or better) paper. NEVER use inkjet glossy paper or you will be shopping for a new fuser assembly. Having trouble getting it to print in landscape in Suse Linux 11.4 using Gimp, but otherwise, no problem

3 out of 5 eggsit comes down to the toner

Pros: Good all around printer for light use. Best part IMO is the small footprint and light weight. Toner change is an easy process. Colors aren't great but when compared to other color lasers they're just fine. Black and white quality is fine. For these reasons it got 3 eggs, i wanted to give it 2 based on our usage though..

Cons: We are a small business printing invoices and claim forms, maybe a little under 800 full, image free pages a week. The Genuine Brother cartridges run out FAST. They're rated at 2200 pages.. not even close. We know enough to set black and white printing, use the "Toner Save" option in the advanced menu AND manually reset the toner out message until print quality suffers!

Still not getting above 1000 pages per black cartridge.

!!The lowest dpi setting on this printer is 600x600 or "normal"!! No draft quality!! What an ink scam. I like brother's products but this is so sad.

Other Thoughts: Brother points to the ISO (i think it's ISO) standard they use to rate the cartridges and that it is really only quoting "half a letter sized page of printed text". Even if your jobs were half pages of text i doubt it would make it. Skip this printer unless you're a light duty user. Shady business practices, just because they're industry standard doesn't make them ok.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Good Printer, haven't had any problems with it. The colors seem crisp and sharp. I have the lower model of this printer at home and a bunch of other Brother Printers throughout my place of work.

Cons: None other then it sucks a lot of power after awaking from a sleep, but that could be because I have to much equipment plugged into the same breaker.

Other Thoughts: Brother is for the Small to Medium businesses. We have 1000+ seasonal employees here and I use a mix of Brother and HP printers. I use the brother for personal/specialty use and the HP's for the work horse locations (200K+ Pages a month). Brother MFC printers have a lot of great features, I like the Scan to FTP for document scanning. But this printer I have in my office and have no complaints.

The toner issue is something that you will need to Google, but you can over come this with some tape before you install the toner cartage. If you do not do this you will be literally throwing your money away. Some of the newer printers and the inkjets you cannot do this as easily as you can with the toner cartage.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It appears to be a very capable printer and the consumables are less then average. The n1 printout I got looked very good.

Cons: I was unable to set up wireless or cabled networking since I lost communication with the prinder in the process of setup and was unable to communicate with it with either of my 3 computers. Even the USB would not comunicate with the printer
