1 out of 5 eggstoner gazilla

Pros: cheap price

Cons: Every 28 days I have change a new toner and every 3 months I have change new drum. If I'm not change on time like 3 days the printer just die, no warning or override. Just die. It is very bad for business. I changed 4 Brother printers and a fax machine at once. Back to HP (American is better).

Other Thoughts: by making you buy REM toner and drum every month is no good business.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Printer, Great Buy

Pros: Great little laser printer. I got tired of my inkjet printer constantly running out of ink. This brother printer was on sale at the time for around 60$ and it has saved me so much time and money. The cartridge it comes with has gotten me around 1000+ pages and is still going strong.

Cons: Replace cartridge light comes on a little premature. Mine lit up a few hundred pages ago so I got a replacement cartridge... however the original cartridge shows no signs of dying yet.

Other Thoughts: The actual brother brand replacement cartridges will run you around 40-50$. However, if you shop around for compatible off-brand cartridges, you can find them for around 20$.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Printer

Pros: Great price, previous Brother printer was very durable -- expect this one will be as well. Non-Brother brand replacement toner cartridges readily available and very reasonably priced.

Cons: Replacement drum is costly, probably better off getting a new printer when the drum wears out. My last Brother printer needed the drum replaced, but the cost was almost the same as this printer bought new.

Other Thoughts: Pretty much a no brainer to get a new printer when the old one is four or five years old and expensive to fix.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy for Windows 8

Pros: Good printer but no Win 8 support

Cons: Does not work in Windows 8

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this for Windows 8. The Brother driver is the only option, and it is a NT 4.0 kernel driver, which is prohibited in Win 8 for security reasons. Brother customer service says to enable kernel drivers, but I cannot find how to do that at MSFT (Brother doesn't know or won't say). They are blaming Microsoft but I think it is a lie for them to say they support Windows 8. Their install tool hangs with no explanation. A manual install fails and if you track the error codes you will find it is due to the Win 8 kernel mode driver block. For Brother to say they support Win 8 when they are knowingly contravening Win 8 security is a deceptive business practice.

2 out of 5 eggsSingle feed tray is terrible

Pros: Compact, tray feed seems to print fine.

Cons: Bought this small printer specifically to print checks in QuickBooks using it's single load slot. Almost every check printed prints skewed. Wound up going with the SAMSUNG ML-2165W instead which has a tray that feeds facing up.

Other Thoughts: If you don't need to use the front load slot this is probably a fine printer. I still docked it three eggs because if you sell something with a particular feature then that feature should work as it's intended.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat reliable inexpensive printer

Pros: Brother makes great laser printers, and this is no exception. We installed it for a user that does a lot of printing at their desk and this was a great upgrade over their inkjet in both reliability and cost per page. Add the fact that you can store toner refills a lot longer than inkjet cartridges and using these is a no brainer for the price.

Cons: Not really a con, but it obviously doesn't print color.

Other Thoughts: If you need a local printer that can plow through a lot of pages this is a great choice.

Cons: Non so far but, It's bad enough that alot of things are made in Chine but this is the PITS that Brothers are being made in Vietnam!!!

5 out of 5 eggsnew laser printer

Pros: followed the direction for driver installation, and is working perfectly on my networked Dell T5400. Haven't tried a network share, will update post if this does not work.

3 out of 5 eggsJust Sayin'

Pros: Wow! Initial Cost. Very decent print output.

Cons: Have to replace the drum

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, having a separate drum that has to be replaced. is a non-starter for me. I realize it has a fairly long duty cycle...but it's just another thing! I like the combined toner/drum approach, IMHO.

4 out of 5 eggsGood printer

Pros: Wanted a laser printer because I was tired of replacing ink cartridges.
Good toner life. Good paper capacity. USB. Power saving auto sleep mode. Brother updates their firmware and emails you when they do(requires you to register the product). Fast, smooth printing.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I have it connected to a print server. All of the PC's in the house use it. Works great. Toner doesn't dry up or expire like ink cartridges do. If you print alot of B&W or don't print a lot. This is the printer for you. It sleeps so you never need to turn it off. I used Brother printers before. One recommendation is to only buy brother products to replace parts with such as toner or drums. Aftermarket or off brand parts will cause paper jams and print issues. seems to happen more on the brother's than HP's with cheap parts. All the money you save by buying this printer, spend on parts when you need them and this printer will last forever.
