4 out of 5 eggsBrother makes great products!

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Fast printing
Front slots for ink
Easy to use touchscreen

Cons: No USB Cable
Loading paper is kinda awkward

Other Thoughts: First off, if you need a small office printer, this is your guy. I have started to replace all the HP all in ones at my workplace with these because of their reliability and end user ease of use. Everyone at my workplace as their own desktop printer if they need to print anything on letterhead. Instead of loading up the huge copier with it and telling everyone not to print, its much easier to use this.

That being said I have been complemented on how small this is, taking up about 20% less desk space than the HP's they are replacing. Older users (50+ yrs old) find it really easy to use.

My one complaint is that it does not come packaged with a USB cable. I do not have wireless at my workplace nor would I put a printer like this on WiFi in a work environment. Luckily I have a few laying around. Does come with a phone cable for the fax, if people still do that.

5 out of 5 eggsThe predecessor is great.

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: This review is about the MFC-J625DW. It appears to be unavailable now. The link on the page for that AiO led here, so the review goes here.

I have had the MFC-J625DW for more than a year. Setup was easy. As we have added computers to our home net, adding the printer to those machines has been straightforward each time.

The other day the AiO stopped communicating over the wifi. I was convinced the radio had died -- and just over a year old. But I discovered from the Newegg page that the J625DW has a two-year limited warranty, so I called customer service. I reached a nice Philippine lady who spoke perfect English. She guided me through a printer reset, and Lo! the J625DW was communicating on the net again. And then the lady guided me through arcane corners of the Windows operating environment to improve the network settings. I have dealt with good and bad service over the years. This was superb service.

The scanner and printer functions have worked perfectly. For example, if you want to scan, you go to the AiO. You tell it to scan to file, and pick which computer you want to scan to. It then sends a PDF file of the scan to that computer, which opens a window to the scans directory. Dead simple. So much easier than going to an app and telling it to scan, using Windows software. Of course, you can still do that, but the on-scanner method is much better.

And there is a document feeder that actually works. Copying is easy, too.

Cons: The naming scheme on the scanned file has the date in mm-dd-yyyy format instead of yyyy-mm-dd format that alphabetizes automatically. (Is this a trivial quibble, or what? But it is my sole complaint.)

Other Thoughts: My happy experience with the HL-5250DN led me to get this printer. If I have to replace either printer, I will look first to Brother.

5 out of 5 eggsWireless?

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Works great via USB. Not a problem for me because the printer is 2 feet away from my desktop.

Cons: Wireless doesn't seem to hold network. I needed to keep power on/off to have it connect. Sometimes re-config network to connect.

1 out of 5 eggsToo many functions, poor support

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Price, OCR works pretty well

Cons: Too many unneeded functions. Who still needs a fax, and why is it always trying to become the default function? Very slow tech support -- make a day of it if you need this.

Other Thoughts: I spent more than an hour waithing for five minutes' worth of tech support. This is unacceptable, and I don't wait on the phone anymore, I hang up and do something else. I'll never use the fax function but I cannot get rid of it, and it always wants to be the default. Pain in the ---.

5 out of 5 eggsBrother MFC-J650dw -So Far So Good

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Quickly connected to wireless network. Never had to plug it in to a computer USB. Downloaded a app on my android phone and printed a document then a picture with no proble right from my phone. Very quiet compared to the HP printers I am used to. XL ink cartridges are not to expensive and do 600 sheets each.

Cons: None so far.

4 out of 5 eggsBrother's Printer

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Prints super fast, connects to virtually everything you own, ink is much less expensive than HP and such.

Cons: Have to buy ink online, haven't found a place locally that sells it. The "Basic" manual is 170 pages...

Other Thoughts: Looks great, it's quite, and doesn't have that cheap feel that some inkjets have when they're printing (that sway back and forth).

Set up is easy enough, anyone with any tech knowledge can set this thing up. BUT, just in case you aren't that person the manual will get you where you need to be.

It requires a bit of setup, but if you need out of the box it can do that too. Windows 7 doesn't recognize it off the bat, but Windows 8 does.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice printer

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Wireless printing from anywhere in the house.
Easy to set up.
Scan to PDF.
Automatic sleep mode to save power.

Cons: Must scan all pages at the same time for them to be in 1 pdf.

Other Thoughts: Potentially no Linux support... Haven't fully tested this yet.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

This review is from: Brother MFC-J650dw (Fast Mode): Up to 33ppm (ISO/IEC 24734): Up to 12ppm Black Print Speed InkJet Color Printer

Pros: Automatic Duplexing (2-sided printing)

Cons: It keeps on showing receiving data after first job. It can not print the 2nd job and it does not allow me to turn it off. Tried to reinstall the software and printer many times. After the very first job, it still shows receiving data and the message stays there hours after hours. On the way to erase the message is to unplug the print and plug it again. But same problem after the 1st print. Called the CS on Saturday, people tried to help, but can not kill the problem. I was told the tech guys only work during the week regular business hours, but by the time I am home, they are long gone. Will try to call again and hope someone can help to fix the problem. Very frustrated!
