Wish I could use printer with my Netgear FVG318v1 wireless router
Reviewed By: pfmartens on 10/29/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: This is my 3rd HP all-in-one and I think the best one so far
Cons: There is a wireless connectivity conflict between the HP 8500 wireless printer and the Netgear FVG318 Prosafe wireless router. The printer works via Netgear's ethernet but not connect wireless. The printer does works on other (non-Netgear) wireless routers. The printer also works via bluetooth and USB. When running the HP 8500 wireless network wizard to try and connect to the Netgear wireless router the printer sees the router's SSID but when the handshaking initiates the router will not assign an IP address to the HP printer. We tried connecting via WEP, WPA and no security at all without success. Because the printer works on other wireless routers there is an incompatibility issue between the HP 8500 and the Netgear FVG318 and a firmware update is needed either for the router or the printer.
Other Thoughts: I am hoping if I publish this review on enough sites it will encourage either HP or Netgear to come up with a firmware update to resolve the problem

A Good All-In-One
Reviewed By: on 10/26/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great all in one printer. Perfect for a home office. Fax, scanner and printer all work perfectly. I love the scan to folder option. Very nice networking feature. Also the 4" x 6" prints are nice. It is nice to have a machine with this much versatility in our home.
I would have given this printer 5 eggs if it weren't for one thing...
Cons: ...HP customer service. It is terrible! Our printer came with a faulty print head. It took at least 5 phone calls to customer service and at least two weeks before our problem was finally remedied.
Just a note - if you buy this printer (or any HP printer for that matter) and you have problems with it:
When you call customer service if you tell them it is for personal use they send you to someone in Asia who has no idea what is going on. If you tell them it is for business use you get someone in the US who can tell you exactly what is going on. You can use that information as you wish.

Best Scanner EVER
Reviewed By: DarrenDK on 10/23/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: This unit, when setup properly, offers the EASIEST scanning EVER. The "Digital Filing" feature of this model introduces the ability to scan and store directly into a network share. Simply share a folder on your computer/server (it even works with domain credentials), give the scanner an account to access the share, and put those credentials right into the scanner's web interface. Put a link on your desktop to that folder and Voila, you have PDFs being dropped right into your desktop computer. The beauty is that NO SOFTWARE NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED FOR THIS TO WORK. Forget having to install 200MB worth of scanner drivers. The built in PDF compression at 200dpi will give you a greyscale PDF at about 400KB per page, not too bad.
Cons: The digital filing feature is only available on Wireless versions of this product.
