Great Printer for the money but...
- Pros: Purchased this printer for my home to replace an old Canon Ink Jet. The printer has plenty of good options and is very versatile. The print quality is good and speed was a bit slow, but nothing to become aggravated over. I have tested most functions to include the fax and they were flawlessly. My only issue is that the printer only allows for one connection, whether it be wireless or hardwired (USB) to your computer. I initially had it hardwired and this caused an error with my network card. I re-installed and tried it wirelessly, but that lasted a week. It may be my aging computer, but it can not work wirelessly with it so had to go through a wired network connection. I am unsure if this was experienced by others.
- Cons: none
Best Printer I've EVER had!
- Pros: Not only was this printer one of the cheapest duplex-printing machines I could find on the net, it just so turns out that it works to replace my old (and broken) Kodak Easyshare printer dock and ALSO supports duplex scanning AND comes with software for taking duplexed docs and putting them into PDF files that have been processed with OCR, plus it can fax and supports bluetooth and WiFi and has a card reader & usb port and can make storage you plug in act as network storage. It's so loaded with features my eyes are tearing up with joy :*)
It's slightly more expensive per photo using this instead of an easyshare printer dock, but the price difference is negligible (a penny or two). I think it's worth the cost though, since the photos print WAY faster and have essentially the same quality. Besides, the cost is made up in cheaper printing (separate cartridges are very convenient)
- Cons: It won't recognize my 250 GB external USB HDD from the photo reader USB port on the front. It would have been uber-awesome if I could use it as a HDD server on my network, especially with the speeds it has over the network (I was able to flawlessly stream a video from my flash drive connected to the printer that was ~400 kbps)
- Other Thoughts: With Ooma working as my free phone/fax/satellite connection service, this absolutely amazing do-everything printer, a flash drive made into network storage via my printer, separate ink carts, and a couple routers that support ddwrt (very stable and configurable), I'm saving loads of money. If you set things up right with ddwrt, you can even print/fax/etc from WAN side.
It's very convenient being able to print photos directly from my phone, fax anywhere in the house (free of charge), print photos anywhere in the house, duplex scan and print, and give files to my parents without actually going upstairs (network flash drive).
Contrary to other reviews, I believe this printer is fairly sturdy.
PS. Here's a shout out to all the workers at Newegg! Once again, a great product delivered at the speed of light and for less cost than I believe to have benefited from your services! Thanks Newegg!
Great printer
- Pros: It was very easy to get this AIO installed and running. I did not use the enclosed disc. I downloaded the latest/greatest install file from HP. Installing the software was rather easy and didn't take much more time than installing any other printer software.
The prints are great. Pictures rival those of Kodak printers.
I wasn't restricted to the HP software for printing on discs. I was able to design in Nero and print from there.
- Cons: It takes a long time for it to decide to print, after it has been sleeping.
Ink isn't cheap and the colors are used fast.
- Other Thoughts: This unit is far better than the Kodak AIO that it replaced.
