Pros: This printer is one of the lowest cost units available. It comes with a pair of standard sized ink cartridges that cost well over half of the asking price for the printer at your local office supply location. The print quality is as good as the middle grade ink jets of a few years ago, and the print speed is remarkable for the price. For a low page per month usage or a spare printer - a printer for a child - it's excellent.

Cons: Ink jet cartridges are always costlly per output page and this one has water soluble ink, particularly the black, so if the page gets wet - it will smear/run. Usual HP bloatware and adware on the driver disk. Pick and choose during the installation - all you really need are the drivers. Unless you don't have any graphics software on the computer or you feel a need to weigh down your browser with an ad driven toolbar, or you want to read HP ads frequently - pass on the rest of the content.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this printer from 'box' mart when I had a sudden, urgent and immediate need to print some documents at 9 PM on a Friday evening. I paid $49.95 plus tax 'on sale price'. WHen I purchased it, I was thinking in terms of it being a throwaway printer. The output and speed changed my mind - it's now a 'travelling' printer - so far, with reasonable precautions and careful packing, it's managed to travel over a large chunk of CA & NV and (so far) continues to do a good job.
