Absolutely fantastic!
- Pros: Fast!! Excellent photo quality. Solid ink is far superior to toner carts.
- Cons: not really a con, but if you can't afford to go a few days without the printer be sure to have a maintenance kit on hand for when you need it (after about 10,000 pages).
- Other Thoughts: This printer is in a class by itself, especially for this price range. I purchased one for a client (dental office) almost a year ago and they have been extremely happy with it. I decided to purchase one for myself to use at home, and have not regretted it at all. I have not noticed the long warmup times - I have it set to 'intelligent ready' mode and my prints always come out quickly, whether I've used it recently or not. Photo resolution is unbelievable, and the ink won't smear if it gets wet.
If you do lots of printing, there is an extra capacity maintenance kit that lasts about 30,000 pages (pt. number 108R00676) for roughly half the cost of 3 standard kits.
You won't be sorry with this purchase.
Great New Technology
- Pros: Xerox is thinking outside the box on this one and it shows. First of all the solid ink idea is absolutely brilliant. No more huge cartridges to store and then eventually end up in the landfill. The print quality is amazing. Color printouts on the cheapest 20# paper you can find end up looking like they were printed by a professional print shop. The ink actually has a "glossy" sheen and the text is the sharpest I have ever seen. Once it gets done warming up it is blazing fast.
- Cons: The warm up process is a bit annoying if you are in a hurry. If you haven't printed in a while and it is in standby mode, it takes about 3 minutes to get warmed backup up. But then it will shoot out pages quicker than any other color printer in this price range.

Buyer Beware
- Pros: Beautiful prints when it operates properly which unfortunately is not very often.
- Cons: Ink chips off page easily, especially if you trim any part of the printed surface. You can scratch ink off with your fingernail. Constantly smears and requires cleaning cycle. Cannot use with hot laminate. (melts the wax ink) Does not handle card stock well. Ink does not adhere to any glossy surface such as photo paper or semi gloss business cards or labels.
- Other Thoughts: I had to return 2 of these. Tried again thinking 1st one was defective, but the 2nd one did the same. Horrible product. I expected more from Xerox. You should take a pass on this inferior product.

- Pros: Prints black and white on plain paper very well. Handles thick matte card stock well.
- Cons: Expensive to operate. Really, Really, Really burns ink. Ink has a tendency to flake off paper. Lot's of smears/missing ink spot on all paper types. Constant cleaning cycle to remove. Photo reproduction is average at best. Sold ink is a great idea, but just doesn't work in practice. Cost to operate even with after market ink is just too high. My Oki still out-performs it. Hi-jacked Adobe Distiller causing me to reinstall it.
- Other Thoughts: I wish, I would have talked to someone who used this printer before I purchased it. I bought it for flyers, needing to use glossy 80# cover. Ink wont stick to it. I was a big fan of xerox products until I got this one. I had to buy another printer to replace it.
I miss it already...
- Pros: Fast, excellent print quality, impressive photo quality. Well built, sturdy, paper tray seemed very durable.
- Cons: Has to be plugged in and heating wax 24/7. Any change to network settings cause the printer to dump wax in the waste tray and reheat new wax. Wax is crazy expensive. Machine is huge.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this hoping to use it for printing photos. I don't print very often, so an inkjet is out of the question due to the way the inks dry up if not used frequently.
The Xerox machine did print photos in much higher quality than my old Samsung CLP-300 laser, but electricity and wax consumption appears to be too high. I am going to buy another cheap laser and hope that within a year or two, Xerox can re-engineer their solid ink printers so that the inks can be retained and reheated if the machine is turned off.
I would love to have kept this machine, and have been remorseful ever since I dropped it off with UPS. It is just too big and costly to operate for my small home environment. A laser printer I can shut off will suit me better... I think... :(
