2 out of 5 eggsNeeds firmware

Pros: Pretty nice color printing for a laser
reasonably fast printing, once it gets up and going
quiet after it's first thru with start-up procedure
set-up was problem free

Cons: Won't wake from sleep-- see thoughts below
It's quite big and heavy
Time to first print is not very fast
dinky screen and non-intuitive menu

Other Thoughts: The problem with the Canon is that it drops into energy saver mode after a max (selected in menu) of 60 minutes. After that, it just goes dead and can not be woken up by any means whatsoever -- cycling the power switch is the only thing that works. Then you have to wait thru the whole startup procedure with Canon's usual noisy clunks, whirrs and whines before it is ready to settle down and print again. Canon tech support (by email) initially asked if it was plugged in. Huh? After I assured them I wasn't quite that stupid, they admitted to a problem with the printer and that "they were working on a firmware update to correct this issue. Unfortunately, they do not know exactly when the firmware will be available. Please continue to turn the printer off then back on to restore the function." Nice. I'd suggest choosing a different printer, maybe stay away from Canon altogether.
