3 out of 5 eggsHandy but Hard

This review is from: Canon PIXMA iP110 Wireless Mobile Printer

Pros: Handy little Printer, has good quality photo and document output

Cons: Very difficult to set up. Went to YouTube for guide, listened to it a dozen time, just would not connect and could not find the printer. Followed directions over and over, finally after many days of retry, it just worked! Magic? not sure.

Other Thoughts: Almost sent it back, but I am very tenacious. Final thought, --It should not be that hard to set up.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat quality, some setup hassles

This review is from: Canon PIXMA iP110 Wireless Mobile Printer

Pros: The print quality I get from this is superb - just what I'd expect from a Canon product. Borderless 4x6 prints are excellent. Apart from an occasionally long spooling time, the responsiveness between submitting a document and actually starting to print is fairly good. The whole printer is one of the smallest I've ever seen and folds up to leave a very small desk footprint. Wireless reception on a G network is strong.

Cons: It can be very difficult to set up the wireless, even with guidance. Setup will require either installing the iPhone/Android Pixma app, or running the setup CD on a windows PC that has a wireless card. Luckily, using the app is fairly hassle-free once you know what to do.

Sometimes the "warmup" phase of the printer can take a really long time - 20 to 30 seconds where it just sits there making noise. This isn't too frequent for me though.

The ink cartridges are quite small. After unboxing the new printer and running Head Cleaning once, the color ink reported 90% full.

This is a rather picky thing, but if you connect directly to the printer, you cannot manually edit the wireless network settings. It _has_ to be done through the Pixma app. This seems kind of pointless considering there is a built-in web interface specifically for (you would think) configuring these types of things.

Other Thoughts: The secret to set everything up is to hold down the wireless button until it flashes 2 or 3 times - this puts the printer into wireless config mode. Then you connect directly to the printer's access point and use the app to configure it. It's difficult to understand the process at first but there are video tutorials that can definitely help.

I've noticed that when using the autoconfigured virtual printer port on Windows (It's called WPT....something), the printer will constantly report that it's offline, and prints will be delayed by as much as several minutes. For this reason I STRONGLY recommend configuring your router's DHCP to assign a static address to the printer (something like 192.168.0.2), then under "Add a Printer" in Windows, enter the hardwired IP address. After I did this, the responsiveness went up 1000% and printouts are almost instantaneous.

I don't intend to ever use the mobile print / Cloud Print services I can't say anything about how well they work.
