4 out of 5 eggsDecent printer

Pros: This is one of the most compact color laser (LED) all-in-ones, at least at the time that I bought it, which was my primary reason for choosing it. I wouldn't say it's a standout in anything, but it seems to perform reasonably well at what it's meant to do. For occasional color printing, I prefer color lasers over inkjets because the latter seem to dry out and/or clog if not used regularly. I think it works reasonably well for low volume SOHO use, and it produces nice output, although I probably wouldn't use it to print photos.

Cons: The paper tray can only be closed when there's no paper in it, which is pretty pointless. I suppose this is "feature" is a result of the printer's relatively small footprint. Also, the unit occasionally fails to wake up from sleep, even when a button on the panel is pushed, requiring a power cycle to bring back to life. (In my experience this occurs only after the printer has been idle for more than a day or so.) The consumables cost for this printer is relatively high, at least for color, but since I mostly print B&W, I can live with that.

Other Thoughts: I have not used this printer's faxing capability, nor have I attempted to initiate scanning from a PC. When scanning, I prefer the "scan to network" option which saves the images on a shared drive, which I can then access from any PC on the network.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Design

Pros: All In One Laser Color Printer. Network

Cons: The biggest issue I have is with Dell's sleep mode. When this thing goes to sleep it will not wake itself up when a print job is sent to it either via network or USB. You need to physically walk over to it and wake it up before it can start to print.

Another issue is the built in wireless feature of some 1355's. You simply cannot connect to the device via wireless. Even with static IPs you can't ping or manually connect to the printer.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this printer to anyone

1 out of 5 eggsHate this printer

Pros: print quality is decent

Cons: horrible UI
not user friendly
very loud
not well made

Other Thoughts: I've had my Dell 1355cn for about 4 months now, and I absolutely can't stand it. It randomly beeps and clicks and is generally unpleasant to sit next to. It also randomly goes into what I guess is a warm-up mode (complete with more beeping and clicking) and makes a big production out of printing nothing. Despite the fact that it does it's warm-up routine all day every day, the printer decides it's going to be asleep whenever I need to use it. That means when I actually try to print on it, I get to listen to it click and beep for 2 minutes while it decides to wake up. Instead of printing the document in the queue when it's finished, it clears the list. Then I get to try to print my document again. It's actually worse when I try to scan a document. The printer is asleep when you hit the scan button, so your computer thinks there isn't a scanner installed. That will lock up the software (which is terrible) and make you start the process all over again. Speaking of scanning docum
