Rosewill RTCG-TN450V2 Replacement for Brother TN450 Black Toner Cartridge Black - OEM

Pros: Good price, on sale.

Cons: Not plug and play.

Other Thoughts: I'll rate this a 3 of 5 so far. I just bought a pair of these, and as luck would have it, I needed to replace the TN450 current cartridge in use just days after receiving these.

However, unpacked and inserted into drum then into MFC printer and get one of two error messages (I will paraphrase here) after much fiddling with it all (i.e. more firmly placing cartridge into drum, shaking the package before putting into printer, and then firmly placing package into the printer - all multiple times): 1) Place ink cartridge into drum; or 2) Toner cartridge needs replacement.

I called the Rosewill support number, but seems they don't work weekends, ugh!

I checked the net and found a site that talks about "resetting" the counter dial. So, maybe I needed to reset the reset??

Between doing two resets (reset the first reset back to original), and then more fiddling, it was finally recognized.

I've been using this MFC printer for some time and have used a few cartridges, but this was the first time I've encountered a problem and had to fiddle with any components.

This is also my first Rosewill brand TN450. Definitely not a plug and play experience.

I worry about my second one as it will be months before I will use it, and if Rosewill will stand behind any problem if it does not work at that time.

I've not printed yet, so might add more comment should experience there not live to expectation, but I expect it should be fine now.

Pros: well, how could it be pros if I can't get it work!

Cons: The printer just doesn't recognize it!! This is really such a waste of time and money. I used to order TN420 and it worked just fine. TN450 is somwhat weird. I want to return but I threw the box away already.

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Prints low quality grainy prints. Even with dpi set at 1200 dpi and toner coverage set on high it doesn't get any better. Don't waist your money, spend a little more and get genuine Brother toner.

Pros: This cartridge, once the printer recognizes it*, works fantastic! Much cheaper than it's Brother equivalent, yet has the same, if not better print quality. Cartridge comes very well packaged.

Cons: This cartridge does not come with any instructions at all! The only thing you get out of the box is the toner cartridge and the protective airbag around it. Generic "Non-Genuine" cartridges don't always get recognized automatically by the printer. I've seen many bad reviews posted for the original Rosewill TN450 cartridge for being "defective" simply because the owner did not know how to make the printer recognize the cartridge.

Other times, the cartridge is recognized just like a regular Genuine Brother cartridge... no resetting required.

Be sure to sift the cartridge horizontally side-to-side to evenly distribute the toner powder within the cartridge before inserting it into the printer. After installing the cartridge, wait a few minutes to see if the toner light goes out. If it doesn't power cycle the printer, and wait again. Then it should treat the Rosewill cartridge as a new cartridge.

Other Thoughts: I've had the brother HL2270-DW printer for 3 months and just replaced the 700 page starter toner cartridge with this one. Laser printers are much cheaper in the long run for printing monochrome (black & white) documents when compared to inkjets. Newegg's Rosewill offerings bring the maintenance cost of a laser printer down even further! Keep in mind, I've only had the new cartridge in service for a few days. If it doesn't hold up to it's high yield promise, I'll post an update. As of right now, I highly recommend this cartridge.
