2 out of 5 eggsFind something else

Pros: Prints fine. I don't use card stock so haven't had issues that others have reported.

Cons: Doesn't auto size scans. Why in this day and age a scanner would not auto size to fit what is being scanned is beyond me. HP really dropped the ball on this aspect, when their older products did this without a problem. From a review of their Q&A support logs, they don't have any intention of adding this either.

Another super annoying thing is when scanning from the flatbed, it requires too many button clicks... like when it is done with page one, it asks you if you have another sheet, then it asks you to press ok again to start scanning... WHY? It would be so simple to have a "Next Page" or "Done" button, which only requires one click... also when you are scanning multiple sheets from the flatbed, there is a timeout feature so if you go grab a snack in the middle of scanning a 15 page document, it will just assume you are done and save what you had scanned forcing you to start over... no way to disable this.

Also, I should have read more closely but it isn't that obvious that the ADF does not scan double sides! I assumed the "PRO" version of this printer would...

Bottom line... find something else... it's not worth it.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great until.......

Pros: Works fine. Prints fast in black and white. Scanner quality is great. Makes adobe pdf's faster than my old printer. Also pretty quiet overall. Fax works fine too.

Cons: Unless you always print black and white text on thin 8.5 x 11 paper, this is NOT the printer for you. This printer has a problem with the sheet feeder (well documented on HP's website). Google hp "officejet pro 8600 plus photo paper" and you will see this is a huge problem. It WILL NOT print on 3 types of photo paper I tried, from 2 manufacturers. HP was one of them. Won't print card stock either. And forget about envelopes. Business cards....not a chance. If you print on card stock, photos, or on envelopes, business cards, etc. avoid this thing. I'm returning it tomorrow.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure how this printer gets good reviews, but I'm going with a different brand.

1 out of 5 eggswindows and hp problem

Pros: These printers have issues with windows and HP does not have a fix for it.... if you print using normal text size in windows the letter head will print fine but if you change the text to medium or large the letter head of prints will cut out... this only happens on these printers and also on the pro's and plus version of HP printers.... all other printers we use work just fine.... issue can not be fixed even with a fresh install of windows.... HP needs to find a fix ASAP

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value, would buy again

Pros: Reasonably fast, esp. at this price point. Easy set up, not sure what the wireless complaints are about, couldn't be simpler. For those of us that have been around for a while, it's amazing how much functionality you get for $200, great unit for small business.

Cons: Print heads no longer built into the cartridges.

Other Thoughts: In my opinion is best for intermittent use of a small biz, not high volume printing.
Also, HP printers used to have the print head built into the cartridge, more expensive, but you get a new head each time you change the cartridge. This is unfortunate but now common to all printers, if the head clogs you throw the printer away.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad.

Pros: Setup a couple of these for clients over the last few months. They have had no issues printing. Software setup went smoothly. Decent speed and print quality.

Cons: Just keep in mind, these do not have a secondary feed. If you want to print something other than plain paper, say an envelope, you have to pull out the paper tray, change the tray to fit an envelope, and then put it all back. Seems odd for a printer in this price range. Client, who often prints envelopes, found out the hard way.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't buy another HP printer

Pros: Low initial purchase price. Specs look decent. Prints ok when it feels like it.

Cons: Unreliable - using wired LAN, half the time can't connect / print. Doesn't like to pick up plain paper from tray (and it's even HP paper). Terrible streaking despite frequent cleaning multiple times. Huge waste of money (ink) trying to keep printing due to amount of ink wasted during clean cycles.

Other Thoughts: I've been using HP printers for more than 20 years. This and one other I am struggling with will be my last.

1 out of 5 eggsgarbage

Pros: It made great photos on photo paper, for a few months.

Cons: Poor manufacturing/quality. We've had nothing but problems with it. LOTS of wasted time.

Other Thoughts: Every time we want to print something we have to make it go through the cleaning cycle at least three times. That's just to make legible, the quality has declined steadily since we got it. It can not handle the logic of "letter" in one tray and 4x6" in the other. It will print 4x6 image on letter, constantly say it is "out of paper" because it's trying to print to the wrong paper presumably. It doesn't really matter because it can barely print legible text let alone anything close to a passable photo. There is heavy vertical banding and the colors are always way off.

I wish the manufacturers would concentrate on making HIGH QUALITY RELIABLE products and then sell them for many years, rather than constantly trying to rush ill-conceived and poorly implemented new products to market.

5 out of 5 eggsSo worth it

Pros: The drivers work. I left lexmark printers behind because I never could get the network / wifi drivers to work correctly on any network setup I had. The only way Lexmark every worked correctly was if you use USB direct connection. Otherwise, it lost connection constantly. I went to HP because I wanted stable drivers that just worked. I have been running HP printer software on 3 OSes.. and all work fine.. XP, Win8, Win7. The app store they have is great, and the direct printing to printer via an email address is handy. All features are useful and I can't be happier with this purchase. I currently have the printer connected via Ethernet. Autofeeder works flawlessly, no jamming yet, or paper crunching. I always had problems with lexmark and the autofeeder.

Cons: Large unit.. but thats fine. a little noisy on startup of job, but again.. not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: I rarely post reviews... but i've been so relieved that i finally have a printer that does what its supposed to do, i had to come and let others know that this printer is a good choice. I use it for small business. Not heavy use yet, but does what i need without issues. I attribute that to HP's experience with creating well tested drivers.

Plus this printer is so inexpensive, i can't see a reason not to go with it. I chose this model for the larger display screen.

3 out of 5 eggsDissappointing Printer

Pros: Long lasting ink cartridges
Fast printing
High paper capacity

Cons: Does not print on heavy card stock or other heavy paper - who ever heard of that?! I use my printer to make visual aids for my class and have owned many HP printers, but, never thought to ask if this higher end printer prints on heavy card stock before purchasing. I will need to purchase a different printer just because of this oversight on HP's part. What were they thinking??

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Printer

Pros: Fast, quiet, wifi, scan to pc, email to print, lots of extra features

Cons: none so far... ink is expensive?

Other Thoughts: Great printer. I use 4 of these at work for the past year or so and they have been good so far. Decided it was time to get one for myself at home.
