2 out of 5 eggsNot the best

Pros: Was ok when it worked, XL ink lasts awhile.

Cons: NOISY! Really noisy. Just got worse as time went on, as did everything else. Kept saying it was out of paper every other page even when the tray had plenty in there (or just a few sheets, I thought for a moment it was too full but that wasn't it), paper jams started happening when it did print, pages came out crinkled, I could go on. And Airprint never worked right.

Other Thoughts: This is my second HP to do the same types of things, and will be my last.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does exactly what its supposed to do; its a great budget printer. I've owned it for 4 months and can't complain.

Cons: Slightly loud, but nothing to remove an egg for

Other Thoughts: Packaging was pretty bad. Newegg sent it in only the box it would've came in if I bought it at a brick and mortar retailer. Had to RMA the first one and the second one has been working like a charm.

1 out of 5 eggsHP printer poor performance

Pros: Compact

Cons: Paper feed is not reliable. Tried different paper, cleaned it mutiple times. Nothing works. The ink level indicator is not reliable. It tells you there is plenty of ink when there is not. The software is not user friendly.

Other Thoughts: I bought this printer because I wanted the copy and scan function. I gave my old Canon printer to my daughter. Which is still working great by the way. This printer won't feed paper no matter what you try. Tried every brand of paper with no change. The software and user interface are not user friendly. I don't like that HP can monitor who's ink you are using. They sent you to their web site to buy ink. HP needs to get out of my face. No wonder HP is in trouble. They forgot the fundamentals which is - Make a good product and people will come.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable, poor support

Pros: Easy initial setup, nice wireless

Cons: Paper feed problems from the beginning. Replaced unit had different problems also with feed. HP Support is a nightmare. 2 hours going through useless procedured that have nothing to do with the problem. Not worth the time and its not a good doorstop.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent AirPrint printer

Pros: AirPrint works like a charm and so does eprint. Nothing like waking up to MSNBC top news on the printer every morning.

Cons: None!

1 out of 5 eggsCarriage Stuck

Pros: Was a breeze to install the software and wireless capabilities, unfortunately, never got to test them.

Cons: Removed all tape and stickers from printer and began installation. Software installed perfectly, including wireless access. But when I began the hardware installation of inks i noticed a problem. Followed all directions on the mini printer screen but had a lot of trouble removing the white plastic protector in the carriage because it was stuck underneath the right side where the sticker with the 5 steps to installing ink is. I could not move the carriage aside to install the inks... i thought that i myself needed to move it and line it up with the color symbols so that i could install the inks..well, i forced it and it made a terrible noise, but it did move over and i was able to remove the white plastic insert in the carriage and install the inks that came with the printer. Closed the lid and then tried to continue with the guided installation in the printer's mini screen. There was an error that the inks were missing/damaged. Opened lid, noticed that the carriage had not moved, and pushed carriage back where it started from. Reset printer and tried again. Same error. Reset and unplugged. Opened printer and tried to reinstall inks into the carriage. The carriage was stuck again and would not move. Fearing that force would break it, checked HP support for solutions to "Printer Failure 0x6100000b".

Read these to find out what was wrong.

According to the above, when you "Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the access area." In my case, it did not.

Hmm looks like it should have been hardware before software in the order of installation. Regardless, the carriage was/is stuck.

It really seems that this may be a defective printer since the carriage never moved to the access area on its own from the start. At this point i don't know what to do.. if i had a hex screwdriver i might open the area above the carriage to see what is going on, but that might void any warranty. I don't know what else to do aside from try to force it out again/wait for someone on the HP forum to try to give me advice.

Other Thoughts: All HP has is a user forum for support: "This HP Community is for Customer to Customer Product Support" Too bad they can't afford to have a real IT department.

1 out of 5 eggsHP Photosmart 5520

Pros: Eprinting capability. Seems like a convenient feature.

Cons: Printer has not worked well from the beginning. Paper will not feed and continue paper jam error. Tried to cleaning, adding new paper etc. Really disappointed since I am life time HP printer owner. Will see how HP handles warranty on this.
