4 out of 5 eggsThis thing is FAST!

Pros: This printer is extremely fast; it's faster than most home laser printers, If you are printing text on one side, I would say it gets close to the 55ppm rating. It also has pretty decent photo/graphic capability; not the best photo quality mind you, but better than most laser printers (which are not really meant for photos and can't print on glossy paper).

I also love the ink cartridges on this thing; they are HUGE. I have printed close to 100 full page photos and still had about half my ink left, and that includes countless everyday printing (600 pages or so).

Networked; I HATE printers that are wireless or still require USB; native Ethernet is the way to go (that's just me though).

A lot of cool little features; scheduled power up and power down, direct e-mail scanning, paper type built in to the paper change (everytime you open the paper tray, it asks you if you changed the paper type and what type, so it always "knows").

Cons: I had to get this replaced; it apparently was a firmware/hardware issue that even HP couldn't figure out; luckily, I had the warranty from Newegg, and when the technician came out to look at it and called in to HP, HP just sent me out a brand new one. The problem kept coming up as a printer or cartridge error and I couldn't print anything unless I complete rebooted the thing. I've had the 2nd one for about a year now and no issues; I think they fixed it.

Does not print borderless photos; not a big deal, but if you're looking for a photo printer, look elsewhere.

The scanner is SLOW and not great quality; I still scan photos with my Epson standalone scanner. It has a document feeder, but that is super slow; about 5-7 seconds per page to scan one side, but it's acceptable.

The Tray 1 (which is the external paper feeder) is a little clunky; I have had a few issues with the "phantom paper jam", but if I am printing a whole lot of something, I'll just put it into the paper tray.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I love this printer; I have been able to print some pretty ink intensive stuff without too much worry about the ink levels, and the inherent quality of an inkjet printer for photos (and the ability to print on glossy media) is great. I love the speed too; even printing a full page color photo takes maybe 2 to 4 seconds.

The jury is still out on the long term; eventually that print head (i.e. one giant print head) will wear out or I may get another firmware issue, but if it lasts me another couple of years, I may be tempted to buy another one when it does finally break down.

2 out of 5 eggsread review on HP Officejet Pro X551dw

Pros: Read first the review on the HP Officejet Pro X551dw. new technology by HP, Great idea of printing.Ink is great last for a while. We got this machine working hard and can handle graphics well.

Cons: At the last few years HP got a reliability issues, Products that last up to the ending of the warranty.Already some jam issues.
This is a fast printer but not 55 ppm (maybe if you print blanks)
Wait for the next generation of these printers.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a printer that will replace laser color you might found the right printer. Main issue is reliability and jams.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The printer is great. I have not had it long enough to see if it saves money on Ink. Duplexing works great, scanning is also very nice.

Cons: The number of pages stated is not exactly what you get, but it is pretty darn fast for my use
