1 out of 5 eggsDON'T DO IT!

Pros: prints well when it works.

Cons: Keeping it happy with ink without breaking the bank is an almost hopeless task. Either you buy HP's outrageously priced ink or pray that you can refill or find third party cartridges that will run in it.

2 out of 5 eggsWARNING - DOES NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING OTHER THAN GENUINE HP INK

Pros: Have had this printer for a while. It generally prints and scans pretty well.

Cons: It does not accept any re-manufactured ink cartridges, or any ink cartridges that are anything other than "genuine" HP ink. It makes up a reason to reject them (claims they are "damaged or destroyed"), but I've confirmed this issue with many different cartridges on my end and also confirmed it though many other online complaints, etc. If you don't mind paying an arm and a leg over the life of the printer for the cost of ink, great. Otherwise, do NOT BUY.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: - Nice clean look
- Good touch screen
- Good list of features

Cons: - None so far

Other Thoughts: This is being used to replace an older Officejet all-in-one and so far looks like it will do a good job of it. I'm happy with the print and copy speeds I've seen so far and setup was a breeze. I'll admit I'm not using many of the available features, and can't testify to just how well it handles other tasks.

5 out of 5 eggs'No setup' printer

Pros: Solid built, easy to use, instant setup, no PC configuring at all w/Win 10, browser based app setups like scan to email and much more.
Fast printing.

I have done many printer setups and this is the easiest hands down of any printer installed.
When I say there was nothing to setup except to plug in and connect to your network, I mean it!!
I was even able to print from my iPhone with no trouble at all.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: For the Black Friday price, this was a steal of a deal, which makes this that much sweeter.

2 out of 5 eggsUnexpected issues

Pros: Extremely nice print quality for unbelievably low price ($99 on sale @ Staples).

Cons: Completely unexpected functional issues arising with this printer. (We have an 8600 Plus in the office - runs like a champ.)
1) The 8610 will NOT copy 2-sided to 2-sided. It will copy 1-sided to 2-sided, but not 2-sided to 2-sided. Our older 8600 will copy 2-sided to 2-sided. I assumed this would, too. Upon further investigation w/ HP, I now understand that (only) the 8620 and the 8630 will copy 2-sided to 2-sided. Before I bought, I DID do a compare on HP's web site, 8610-8620-8630. The ONLY difference showing between the 8610 and the 8620 was the slightly larger control panel on the 8620. Now if I want to copy 2-sided to 2-sided, I have to walk back to the old 8600 Plus and do it there. Hmmm. Didn't expect I'd need a workaround - back to an older unit.
2) Scans multiple pages from the ADF fine. But. When I scan from the glass, the scan comes through UPSIDE-DOWN. And TRUNCATED. ???? I often scan from the glass - smaller documents like driver licenses and passports.
3) We have our 8600 set up with two paper trays; second tray loaded with letter-size paper and set as default. First tray loaded with envelopes. Works well; print trays auto-select paper/envelopes. Also bought second paper tray for the new 8610, 2nd tray loaded with paper and set as default; tray one loaded with envelopes. Can NOT find instructions on how to set auto-select paper/envelopes. Instructions might exist somewhere, but the time spent on the hunt is expensive.
4) Not WISIWIG. Logo in the letterhead prints very large (Word documents); prints just fine on the 8600 Plus.
Getting very frustrated.

Other Thoughts: Now I'm beginning to see why HP is experiencing difficulty in the marketplace. The devil truly is in the details, and the details on this machine - as good as it is - appear not to be worked out, from communicating clearly and completely with the prospective customer, to making the machine interface well in the field, and function as expected. I probably won't keep this machine; may move to another brand. I had an extremely nice conversation with HP support, working through the 2-sided to 2-sided issue, but those people are very limited on what they are told & what they can do, and I get the feeling that, even though the support staff has a good handle on what the product issues are, there isn't a lot of upward mobility of problem identification to the higher management levels where the issues can be designed out. I feel as though a simple task of buying & setting up a printer is burning WAY too much time with unexpected "gotchas". I would like to be a loyal HP customer, and standardize on one set of replacement ink cartridges across the office, but -- is HP supporting that?

3 out of 5 eggsUnending stream of fax copies sent

Pros: You get a LOT of capabilties with this unit, for a very reasonable price.

Cons: I do not own this product, but have installed a LOT of printers as a service through our company. Starting with the 8600, and including all of the new models (8610, 8620, & 8630), the printer will randomly send a fax sent from the PC over & over & over. The business owners tell me that the only way to stop it (on the sending end) is to cancel the print job, and then restart both the printer AND the PC. The HP 8500 NEVER did this. They really messed something up in the FAX software for these printers.

Other Thoughts: I contacted HP about this problem, and they sent us on a wild goose chase, trying to blame it on the telephone company, etc, finally sending a link to a document written for printer issues in Windows XP! I know that FAXing is outdated, but not for my business customers, and HP should either make it work right, or take the FAX from PC feature out of the printer software. Stop pretending.
It DOES work GREAT as long as you are faxing from printed copies.
