1 out of 5 eggsProduct is totally inoperable

Pros: There are no positive comments to make.

Cons: The engineers in our company have been unsuccessful at printing one single prototype on this machine. There have been filament feeding issues since it was received. The product warranty is 6 months. We began to address issues with MakerBot, who sent several replacement filament feeding heads. Many attempts were made to allow the filament to feed with zero resistance, but the print heads still did not function.

MakerBot eventually had us return the unit for repair, returned it to us a week later and we the problem is worse. We can not even get the machine to print a small cube.

This troubleshooting effort took 3 months. I requested that we return the unit to MakerBot, not realizing that we purchased it from Newegg Business, and Makerbot issued an RMA for a full refund return. Makerbot notified me the next day that we would need to return it to Newegg.

Newegg is currently refusing to offer a full refund for this product that does not function, even though MakerBot is taking responsibility for the non-functional product and will fully refund the purchase price. The troubleshooting process with the manufacturer took longer than the 30 day return policy with Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line... DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!!

Also, this is more of a review of Newegg customer service. I have been try to get a response for a special return consideration since 6/10/15 (it is now 7/7/15). I have written email, chatted with online customer support and talked on the phone. All conversations lead me to waiting to talk to a supervisor. I received one phone call back from a supervisor to tell me that he was working on the situation. Last week I was promised a return call from a Service Manager, but I have yet to receive a phone call.

We will no longer be a customer of Newegg business. This level of customer support is inexcusable.

1 out of 5 eggsI give up... Boat anchor.

Pros: No actual pros, because it just doesn't work.

Cons: This device is just not ready for prime-time. It has been a very costly waste of time and money. I have tried just about everything. I thought I had at least a passible way to get it to print, then it failed me again. I just give up.

Other Thoughts: Boat anchor. Do not purchase under any circumstance.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Some luck getting it working OK

Pros: -Large build size.
-Makerbot filament is relatively low cost.
-Advertised 100 micron resolution is good at this size.
-Firmware updates

Cons: -Smart extruder is buggy. "Dreaded clicking" when printing causes parts to be junk. This is creating a lot of difficulty getting good parts.
-Smart extruder has very short life and is very expensive.
-Don't like the filament setup, knocks the smart extruder off, jams filament. Modified to make the machine even work passibly by re-routing the filament over the top to reduce the guide tube bending and moment on the smart extruder (like the more classic 3D printer designs).
-Short warranty and trial period.
-Customer support cost big $$$

Other Thoughts: Update: I have had some success getting this machine to produce a few parts reliably. After many, many parts, settings, replacement extruders, and etc. The most luck I have had was after I changed the slicer settings to use "outer" extrusion profile on infill and insets. The most problems happened when it was printing those, so after using the "outer" extrusion profile on both of those in addition to the usual outerextrusion profile string, parts seem to work much better. The down side is it prints significantly slow, but much less issues with jamming and "clicking". So I have raised my review to 3 eggs....

2 out of 5 eggsHopefully this product improves....

-Short warranty and trial period.
-Customer support cost big $$$

Other Thoughts: Until I get through the smart extruder bugs, either with better settings, improved firmware, or improved smart extruder I would not recommend this product at this time. Sad because the potential is there for this to be a great product. But right now it isn't working well enough. I will update my review if things improve.
2 eggs for now, if I can get the clicking fixed then it would be 4 to 5 eggs.
