1 out of 5 eggsDONT BUY THIS !!!

Pros: NEWEGGS GOT THEM

Cons: BUY A MINI USB DONGLE WITH A SQUARE END SHAPE FIND THEM ON NEWEGG

Other Thoughts: IF YOU BOUGHT THIS I WOULD RETURN IT AND BUY A GENERIC MINI USB DONGLE WITH A SQUARED END NOT ROUNDED. WILL FIT AND HAVE ALL OF SAME FEATURES FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Needed

Pros: Bluetooth

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: I was going to buy this, but tried a generic blutooth dongle. The generic bluetooth dongle works fine for basic function, all of our bluetooth enabled computers & cellpones found it with no problem.

4 out of 5 eggsworks but pricey

Pros: This addon does what it advertises - it allows you to use bluetooth to run the printer - albeit with some issues. I use this with a work laptop where I have to VPN (VPN cuts off ability to use a shared home printer on my local LAN so the bluetooth gives me a workaround).

Cons: First, its very slow compared to a regular connection. Second, you can't use it with most smartphones - the drivers aren't available.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't FAX with Bluetooth

Pros: Can print from a laptop.

Cons: Price. Cannot send a fax job to the printer over Bluetooth.

Other Thoughts: This is a follow-up interview to my initial one. I had already complained about the price, but now that I discovered it doesn't even support the fax protocol, it's even more bogus! My 10-buck BT adapter supports FAX. I wonder if a plain old BT adapter would work just as well for print jobs (since that's all the BU30 offers) and save the extra 30+ bucks. I thought I required the BU 30 to have access to more features on the printer, (like faxing) but it doesn't look like the BU 30 is anything but the most basic, overpriced BT adapter out there. Thumbs down to Canon on this overpriced BT option with the barest functionality!!

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect

Pros: Works perfect. Very nice to print from my recliner and laptop without having to be tethered to the Canon across the room. BT is also nicer than using the existing wifi network because I don't have to have the desktop (server) booted or mess with enabling shared devices. Just turn on the Canon, plug in my USB BT adapter to the laptop, and print all I want.

Cons: Overpriced 75% [by Canon's MSRP]. If this were $15 or less it would get 5 stars. The actual manufacturing cost is pennies and BT should have been built into the machine in the first place. It is annoying to pay so much for so little (again, not NewEgg's fault). At least the MX850 is a great value which helps offset the agony here.

Other Thoughts: I purchased the Aluratek ABD2020 BT USB adapter (also from NewEgg) to go in my laptop to talk to the BU-30. With current rebate it will cost 6 bucks -- that's more like it for these little devices! It came with a CD/manual & said to load the drivers and sftw. Spent 3 hrs. trying to get it to talk to the BU-30. Could not register the Canon under the BT category in Control Panel, b/c there WAS no such category there. Finally uninstalled ALL sftw that came with the Aluratek/rebooted/stuck in the BT and XP SP2 found drivers immediately. The BT category also appeared in CTRL PNL as it was supposed to and I was able to add the Canon (i.e. register it as a BT device) per the Canon manual. Everything worked perfect. Moral of the story... try your computer's BT adapter using XP drivers FIRST, and just follow the Canon guide to setup BT. Forget about 3rd party drivers.
