Temper mental, but good
- Pros: Hello, I’m coming from a Audigy 2 and this card is much better. I’ve tried BF 2142 and I can say that this card definitely helped improve my frames per second. When a lot of explosions and heavy gunfire are going on around me, my system used to stutter and or bog down. Since installing this card, it’s helped to stop this. The sound is much better than my previous sound card. There are so many programs and options with this card that one could spend an entire week dorking through them. I don’t impress easily, but this card’s sound definitely impressed me. The added game performance was nice as well. Technical support hasn’t moved out of the USA yet. I was shocked to speak with a fellow American. That’s a rare commodity now a days. Tech support was good, courteous, and I didn’t have to wait more than five minutes to speak with somebody.
- Cons: This card is very fussy. I didn’t do my research before purchasing this card. A fellow computer enthusiast that I respect recommended this card, hence I didn’t do any research. After putting this card in the PCI slot and firing up the computer, I was instantly alarmed at my graphical display upon booting into Windows XP. I could only use 4 bit color at a resolution of 800x600. After an hour of trying different things I called tech support. All that they worried about was if it was sharing an IRQ with another device and I told them that it wasn’t because I’ve already checked it. Since I was asked a lot of questions about all my hardware, software, and what device is on this IRQ etc, I felt as though I was only contributing to their data base. Tech support didn’t help me, but I must admit I didn’t try their online knowledge data base… The problem was in the BIOS. I had to adjust my “Video Card Aperture Size” to 256MB. Once I did that, the problem was solved.
- Other Thoughts: I haven’t had the clipping that other people are reporting. I’ve read about games crashing to desktop once they are launched and I believe I know why. I was listening to some music to test the sound card. This card has three modes that you may use. If you’re not in “game mode,” it will case Battle Field games to crash to desktop, that is if they will launch at all. I wasn’t in “game mode” and this was causing the issue. Once I switched to game mode, problem solved.
Excellent sound card ( but needs speakers to match!)
- Pros: Definitely can hear a difference in quality between this and everyone's favorite Realtek chip. Love how it can apply surround to all applications, and it does it pretty well.
- Cons: If you're getting one these, be sure to buy high-quality speakers. I'm using this with Logitech's X-530. While there was a difference in sound quality in improvement, it wasn't whizz bang like I thought it'd be. Just so people have an idea, my speaker setup totals 70 watts, at 7 watts per satellite and 35 for the sub.
- Other Thoughts: I don't know what's everyone's problem with this card. I use an nForce 4 chipset. The only issue I had with installation was my case fudged up how my mobo was mounted, so I had some trouble with that. Afterwards, I disabled on-board audio via BIOS (first thing you should do!), popped in the disk, installed, and whalla! Also sure, the applications can be considered bloat, but use msconfig and kill all the start up programs. Not to mention if you're getting this card JUST for BF2, you are wasting your money (you never buy hardware for just ONE measly application).
I think a lot of people were just doing it wrong.

Great sound card
- Pros: Added to old P4 2.4GHz system so I could record music from my digital keyboard. Probably was overkill, but I have had little trouble with the card. I like that you can record in 24 bit and 192KHz.
- Cons: I have had no trouble with the board itself, but with the Web-based driver and application update I have had trouble. Twice now, after downloading the most recent updates (e.g., drivers and/or software), the system didn't recognize the sound card. After using system restore, I was able to use the sound card again. One other time, after runing updates, the sound card was recognized, but I couldn't use most of the associated softward (i.e. the software that came with the sound card). Finally, I have resorted to installing only one update at a time, starting with the drivers, and then rebooting before installing the next update. This seems to work for me.
- Other Thoughts: Would give 5 eggs, but the driver and software update process has been quite a hassle for me.
I don't really have need for the 64 MB of XRAM, but I guess it is nice to have just in case.
I own 2 of these & they perform great on nForce boards
- Pros: I have 2 Dual Boot systems. The first is a nForce 780i / XP 64bit & XP 32bit. The second board is a nForce 680i /Vista Ultimate 32bit & Windows 7 Beta build 7000.
The Sound Blaster drivers posted @ Sound Blaster's site work just fine on all of the Operating Systems except for the Windows 7 Beta. Daniel K @ Sound Blaster has provided a Beta support pack that remedied the drivers for The Windows 7 Beta install until Windows 7 is officially released summer 2009. I am using the Logitech Z5300 5.1 Surround on my 780i system @ 250 watts.....this will wake the neighbors for sure. The sound is "AWESOME"! The ASIO drivers work great with my Midi Controller. Thanks Sound Blaster for another great series. I upgraded to the Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series for more control when editing sound, but the quality of sound is equally "AWESOME"!
- Cons: It takes a bit of home work to get the cards to perform as expected, but this is normal when it comes to upgrading. I'll admit that Sound Blaster's support team is pretty useless. The User Forums are loaded with really smart people that don't whine everytime they run into a glitch.
- Other Thoughts: Visit the forums for support @ Sound Blaster & you just might find the answers.
