Boost your desktop's audio performance with a sound card from one of the premier names in computer audio—Creative Labs. The Sound Blaster XtremeGamer sound card is designed to enhance your PC gaming experience and improve your computer's overall performance. The card's X-Fi 24-bit Crystalizer will make your game audio more dynamic and realistic while improving both low and high frequencies giving you smoother, cleaner sound.
The card's audio processor, with help from Creative's CMSS-3D technology, is able to remix your stereo audio into surround sound—even through stereo headphones. This is ideal for playing first-person shooters so you can hear your enemies before it's too late. EAX Advanced HD technology further improves game audio tracks providing a more immersive experience.
Music and movies benefit from Creative's audio technology know-how, too. For enjoying your favorite DVDs, the card is THX certified and can handle decoding DTS and Dolby Digital EX duties via a free download of Cyberlink PowerDVD software.

Pros: Cheapest member of the true X-Fi family.
Cons: Lacks X-Ram
Other Thoughts: Contrary to what some other individual's reviews on newegg say, this IS a true X-Fi card and DOES support EAX 5.0. This card directly replaced the XtremeMusic in the X-fi line up, which has been cause for some confusion. It is the XtremeAudio which is the crippled card that offers no hardware acceleration.

Pros: Easy hookup, great price and very LOUD!!!! lol
Cons: None, for me.
Other Thoughts: For those that are having issues with Vista....... DO NOT load anything from the CD that you receive with this card! Go to the Creative website and download the Vista drivers and other software. Mine works perfectly and the tons of settings make it even more outstanding.

Great Hardware, Bad Software

Pros: When this soundcard is configured properly and working like in BF2142 it sounds amazing, it is the ideal sound card for a gaming rig. The features offered will give you an advantage in games if you use a headset. You will clearly hear things that other people hardly notice are there.
Cons: The installation practically carpet bombs your PC with AOL ads and reminders to register your product, the driver support is weak and there hasn't been an update in over 9 months so I deal with slightly substandard sound in my primary game UT2004, The software included is useless and bloated, even if you do the "Gamer" Installation which only installs the driver it will add 4 new processes to your startup none of which are needed.
Other Thoughts: Creative should be banned from making software they fail so miserably.
But I'd still get this sound card since it's a good value

Pros: Excellent audio playback and recording quality, compatibility (I haven't seen a lot of recent mother boards that don't like this card) and full EAX support. As other reviewers have mentioned the volume level output of this card is much higher than most on-board setups.
Cons: Inconsistent Creative labs driver support. (i.e. you *might* get a new driver this year..) and mic in/optical port is iffy at best. I would have preferred a traditional mini-plug jack over the split use jack, because I've found the pug it self to be less well constructed as the other plug and more prone to poor connections (YMMV). Front panel audio port on card is *not* powered, so the mic and stereo output is much lower than plugging into the plugs on the back.
Other Thoughts: Overall a nice card, but with 20/20 hindsight I would have gone with on-board audio. At the least, because the drivers get updated much more often. Additionally I'm not sold on the value of EAX outside of a few key games (Bioshock comes to mind). Support overall for EAX and its feature set appears to be dwindling.

It`s louder than the onboard. Yay!

Pros: Works as it`s supposed to and is simple and straightforward to install. Works fine in a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H board with 64-bit Vista as the OS. The main reason I tried a different soundcard is because the onboard RealTek isn`t loud enough. This Creative card is definately louder.
Cons: Could always be louder, but haven`t really found any cons yet. I bought a factory-refurbished one for a much lower price than new/retail, so whether it holds up is anyone`s guess. I probably should get a con for not really researching sound cards as I should have done before buying one, but this has over 900 reviews so I jumped on the bandwagon. =P
Other Thoughts: Not having much experience with sound cards and hearing horror stories about how the drivers on the CD may hose your operating system, I was nervous about installing this. Fortunately, my fears were unfounded. I downloaded the x64 Vista drivers from Creative`s site, uninstalled the RealTek drivers then shut down the PC and installed the card. Upon reboot I disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS and let Vista load. Once inside the OS, I was encouraged when I was prompted to load the drivers for "new hardware". The driver install seemed to take longer than usual, and the computer took a very long time to shut down and come back up after the required restart. However, once I heard the Vista "chime" which plays as the Windows logo is displayed, I new I was in business. The card sounds decent, and most importantly, is much LOUDER than the onboard RealTek ALC892. Ain`t buying something and having it work properly a grand concept?

Pros: Nice rebate, couldn't resist. For Windows 7 (even 64-bit) you just need 2 downloads, the drivers and the "beta" Creative console launcher. That's it. And you don't have to get the Creative console launcher unless you want to use it to switch Modes (Entertainment, Game) easier or try other settings like crossover.
Cons: None. It takes up a slot?
Other Thoughts: It has a crossover option. Interesting that you can let your 5 or 7 surround speakers just do the highs and let your sub do all the lows. It's worth playing with to see if you prefer it at least.
