5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me.

Pros: This card does exactly what it is meant to do - deliver sound. I've been using it on and off in several different builds and never had a problem, not a single one.

Cons: Nothing comes to mind at this time.

Other Thoughts: This card has gotten a lot of negative reviews, mostly involving driver issues. The updates work just fine, the card installed with not a single issue. I wonder if some of negative reviews were due to a lack of knowledge or perhaps expectations that were set too high. Come on people, it's a mid range card and for the money, does a great job.

I've always been a Creative sound card user. Most of my builds are based on an Asus motherboard. Creative sound cards have always worked flawlessly. I purchased an Asus sound card, thinking it would perform better due to the Asus motherboard (I'm a die hard Asus fan). Honestly, I could not detect a difference, if there was one, between the two manufacturers, other than cost.

People, if you want high-end performance out of a mid-range sound card, you're going to be disappointed. Go buy a high-end card. See if you're complaining then.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Great range and can deliver with the updated drivers
It works well
clear sound
all setup works from stereo and headset modes to the 7.1 channels

Cons: Does not have the power to drive high impedance sound drivers for high end speakers, so you are going to have to spend more for that.

Does not actually use True X-fi

Suffered some interference on the low 15-45 Hz range. Could vary from card to card. mobo to mobo.

Other Thoughts: Good for trying to upgrade from bad mobo sound.
Not so good if you are looking for the best.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card for Steam OS

Pros: Outstanding sound quality. Easy to install. Great for gaming.

Cons: Older tech from 2007 but still awesome.

Other Thoughts: Was looking for a great card for my Steam OS box that would push great sound. Found it cheap. Haven't checked in with creative labs in a while but they are still the one to go with.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this card!

Pros: it plays sound

Cons: No driver support, online support is cryptic and useless, 7.1, 7.1 true, and 5.1 don't work, wont allow doulby decoders, barely works, random static from bad drivers

Other Thoughts: This is sound card is awful simply awful. I have owned it for over a year now and never once got it working correctly. There is random static for no reason caused by the bad drivers that they use for this card. There is really nothing nice to say about the card, i don't know where these other reviewers are coming from it flat out doesn't work.

5 out of 5 eggsS/PDIF Output Works Great

Pros: S/PDIF out & off-loaded sound processing.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I took a chance and purchased this elsewhere used for half the price. I don't see how people can say S/PDIF optical out does not output 5.1, because it does.

I purchased this specifically for XBMC since my on-board S/PDIF TOSLINK optical was Realtek and XBMC does not like Realtek S/PDIF. I was getting a static noise blip when multichannel audio started with Realtek, but not with this card. Multichannel audio plays good the first time.

When I play a movie with DTS audio I see and hear my Onkyo TX-SR600 change modes. The display changes to "DTS". When I play a Dolby Digital movie in XBMC my Onkyo changes and displays "Dolby Digital". It even changes and displays "Dolby Pro Logic II" when I play the appropriate format. Even when I played a movie with only a DTS-HD Master Audio track, it gets down converted to plain old DTS and still plays okay and my receiver displays "DTS".

People need to know that the Control Panel->Sound->SPDIF Out Properties->Advanced-Default Format is the shared mode output, which is limited to 2 channels. That's where the audio device is shared by multiple programs at the same time, where windows and other programs can play audio all at the same time and get mixed together. But if a program can have exclusive access to the audio device then it can take full advantage of all its features. Which is why there's an "Exclusive Mode" option in the advanced tab. And XBMC uses this exclusive mode with the WASAPI mode.

When I played a movie using VLC it didn't automatically select the correct output mode. It was still using 2 channel mode. I had to select Audio->Audio Device->A/52 over S/PDIF. Then my receiver clicked into multichannel mode.

So if anyone says this card does not output 5.1 over S/PDIF optical, they are uninformed. Because it does.

5 out of 5 eggsCrisp Sound

Pros: The sound is crisp, and it can do 5.1 without a problem. And, for all the reviews saying it's not 'real' 5.1, it is. It makes my FLAC library sound amazing. I can almost hear new instruments.

Cons: None, whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I recommend this sound card to anyone that has $50 to spend.

5 out of 5 eggsIt plain works!

Pros: Got this to replace the SB1040 that came with my PC, poppped it in, a few driver updates and I was back on track. Can't get any easier.

Cons: None. Sounds good, works better.

Other Thoughts: Had to RMA a piece of junk Turtle Beach Amigo II that didn't work out of the package. Newegg made it super easy and even refunded the shipping cost to RMA! Ordered this the same night and it was in my hands 2 days later and I'm jamming and doing my thing again! Newegg will ALWAYS get my business!

5 out of 5 eggs10 hour install?

Pros: Just wanted to say to the 1D10T who claimed it took 10 hours to install, and his high tech level...ZOMG! Who cares if the drivers aren't supported in windows 7? Friggin right click the installer, and choose properties...then compatibility...then run for an older version of works. Some people should not be allowed to touch a computer...

Cons: none
