2 out of 5 eggsDrivers will be the death of Creative

Pros: It's a PCIe card
It has a range of connection options

Cons: Drivers
Bloatware, I mean Creative Apps

Other Thoughts: The drivers were OK under Windows 7, but the drivers under Windows 8 have been nothing but disappointing.

I have since removed this from my PC because Creative has not released a solid driver in some time.

Since removing this I have been using onboard audio. I am not an audiophile and won't pretend to be, but I haven't heard a difference yet. The only difference I have noticed is that my audio works when I want it 100% of the time using with onboard.

1 Egg because 0 isn't an option, but I gave this another because the driver was OK on Win7.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Quality

Pros: The quality on these is pretty good. These are paired with my klipsch promedia 2.1. If you buy this card do not use the drivers from creative but the ones from PAX. Just look up paxyoursoundout on google, go to the website and then find your set of drivers. If you use the PAX drivers this card sounds great!!!!

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGiving a PC to some people is like giving a loaded gun to a monkey!!

Pros: I would buy another one any day, any time!!
See my previous Review.

Cons: Nadda

Other Thoughts: xylo is obviously way below the tech level he listed himself as being.

I have been running this card for 6 months now and it works GREAT!!

Never had a problem with it!!

Oh yeah, and as far as xylo saying W7 support is a joke....

Well, i am running it on W7 64bit and this card works PERFECTLY!!!

Too bad they discontinued it!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsHuge mistake

Pros: When it worked, it had very good quality considering what I payed for it.

Cons: Support on Windows 7 is a joke. Customer service is absolutely abysmal. It took a week of messing with various mickey mouse fixes to get it to work intermittenly for three months before it crapped out again, BSOD'ing my computer and causing Win7 to go from 20 second boot on my SSD to 3 minute boot. I'm not exaggerating. If Creative hasn't come up with a driver solution yet, they won't.

Other Thoughts: Easily the worst mistake I've ever made on Newegg. This piece of garbage isn't worth the headache for a few bucks saved, even when I got it on black friday on sale. I'm selling it off for a third of what I paid for it, and going for a card with proper driver support. I suggest you do the same.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT CARD!! As always!!

Pros: Works great and sounds great!!

I have been using this card in my system for 5 months and it has always performed flawlessly with music, movie's and GAMES!!!

Cons: None for me....

Other Thoughts: I am not sure what other posters are talking about, This card has never given me one single problem since it was installed!!

I have used Creative sound cards exclusively for years and years!!
I'd dare say 10 years!!
And they have all worked great for me!!

People need to learn how to update drivers & software.
There are usually always updates newer than what comes on the install disc.

Creative has always been on top with fast updates and newer features for their hardware!!

5 out of 5 eggsFirst EAX card that actually works.

Pros: This is the first EAX gaming card supporting more than 4 speakers I've had that actually delivers on the 5.1/7.1 promise that most cards make, and none deliver. Upgraded from a Live 5.1, and I can tell you flat out that the 5.1 failed to deliver 5.1 speaker support on the center channel, it almost always was either too quiet or a muffled center channel. This one, on the other hand does the center channel perfectly. FINALLY!

I've had tons of EAX cards, but this is my first PCI express sound card, and the first that delivers EAX hardware support in games and also delivers full speaker support for my sound system. The only other thing that came close was a Creative onboard audio 24bit (or so it called itself) but its EAX support came in greyed out in Quake 4 and pretty much every game that was post EAX 1.0. So far this card is the only one that has delivered.

Cons: Thus far, no problems. It works, and it plays audio well. I haven't set it up for midi playback (SoundFont) in older games, but we'll see. If this is anything like my old live 5.1 and prior lives, I'll use it for a long time. Especially since unlike the Live 5.1 xgamer, this thing actually works with 5 speaker setups and outputs perfectly out the center channel. Price wasn't great, but hey, if it lasts as long as my previous Live setups did, it will make up for price just like the old ones did. Not really cons, as you can tell.

Other Thoughts: Also works in Linux, you will need a modern kernel, (Latest 2.6.32 or later should do) and I have to say that I haven't done any gaming under Linux yet. It works fine for video playback with 5.1 though. If you use Ubuntu, you will have to make sure you specify what you want the card to do, what your main output hardware should be, etc. This shouldn't come as news to anyone that's dealt with the quirks of Alsa or Pulse.

1 out of 5 eggsDiscontinued for a reason

Pros: I guess it sounded good while it worked.

Cons: I don't bash much on newegg. But creative has just gone downhill with their drivers and support.

--- This card gave me nothing but problems. Software is terrible. Freezes games up. I don't need a whole lot more to decide this thing is not worth the hassle. Go newegg for easy RMA. Love Newegg! Done with Creative!

Other Thoughts: By the time I was done farting around with this thing on board sound never sounded so good.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This card sounds great for both gaming and listening to music. Make sure you have a pair of nice speakers to really enjoy the sound.

Works out of the box in windows and Linux (Fedora 16). Although, it took a while of fidgeting with the audio settings in linux before I could use the microphone without it routing the microphone directly to the speakers. Works great now.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsSound blaster

Pros: Sounds beautiful, if your a gamer you need one of these. This combined with a good set of headphones will make anything you play sound like magic in your ears. If all you have is some on board sound chip, you are truly missing out.

Cons: This doesnt come built on to mother boards. but thats not a con of this card, its a con for the world, its a shame that mother board companies take the time to put inferior sound chips on their boards.

Other Thoughts: Until you have heard creative sound cards you dont know what your missing. i have had a pci512, sb blaster live, Sound blaster audigy, and a sound blaster X-fi xtreme music card as well and will not stop buying creative products for my home built pcs.
