3 out of 5 eggsSBX is cool, some issues.

Pros: Bought the card here, on sale for $60. I only use digital out, so I bought this card exclusively for the use of SBX Pro Studio surround in games with my headphones. The SBX woks well, and sounds far better than CMSS-3D. I do not like it for movies. It does make special effects sound really cool, but voices still sound a little off. Less noticeable in games where the real time placement of characters makes the sound signature less intrusive.

My Auzentech Prelude based on X-Fi only had CMSS-3D, and lacked the ability to output stereo mix to digital. Again, I only use my high end headphones with an amp that only accepts digital input.

Cons: Since installing the card, I get hard system crashes during playback of certain video formats, triggering an instant reboot and junk noise outputting via digital during the boot process.

Also CoD: Ghosts cinematic cut scenes will play normally for maybe half the duration and then the sound tends to start turning on an off. Game play is not effected.

Other Thoughts: Since SBX works fairly well, and I already installed my old card in another machine, I guess this one is staying. I'm not at all impressed that a product from Creative of all people should crash during mundane tasks. Unless there is a REALLY specific defect, I don't think the hardware is bad.

If I'd paid more than $60 for it, I'd take the time to RMA the thing and not replace it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Got it on sale for $60. Cant go wrong with that. Ive been using on-board sound for years, and I wanted something fresh. There's only so much better headphones can do, so I thought I would go to the source of the sound, and with this being on sale and not the normal version with tons of accessories Id never use, it was a perfect fit to my needs.

Simply put, the audio quality I am getting now has improved drastically. The difference is very noticeable, and I love it. In the game, World of Tanks alone, the sounds are much deeper and this card really brings out a lot of the details I never knew were even there. It literally felt like playing a new game. Other games have had similar results, but this was the most dramatic change I've experienced.

Cons: Cant day there are any. It works as intended, works fantastically, and for the price I paid, I am a happy customer.

If anything HAD to be wrong, then I guess I could complain about the color. It is red where as my computer is mostly yellow, but meh. My ram is red too, and my graphics card if blue, so whatever. Rocking the 3 primary colors.

5 out of 5 eggsnice card

Pros: Very good clear and crisp sound. Games, music, and videos sound great. I came from an X-fi card in my previous system which still sounds great to the Z card and have noticed a difference in sound quality. This is a great card to get. Works well with Windows 8.1 pro.

Cons: None so far. Creative has had issues in the past with buggy drivers and I have experienced them off and on, but so far, no issues with this card.

Other Thoughts: Was debating between this card and the Asus Xonar card and reviews were pretty much similar as far as sound quality and drivers go. I knew what to expect with Creative since they are the only cards I have purchased.

3 out of 5 eggsStrange Behavior...

Pros: The sound is superb to my old xtreme gamer fatality pro.

Cons: One big issue I have with this card is that whenever I first start my computer, if I start up any of my browsers (typically Chrome) I have no sound within it. But now if I leave Chrome open, play an mp3 music file (which works) and go back to Chrome... then the sound works in Chrome. Got me scratching my head on this one as I have no experienced anything like it in the past.

Second problem is no big deal but had to comment on it... on my old xtreme gamer... I liked having the individual adjustments for treble and bass

Other Thoughts: I have all my sounds in Windows disabled, but I'm going to try enabling the StartUp sound in hopes to correct the problem of no sound off the bat within browsers.

5 out of 5 eggsthis is what the recon 3d pci-e should have been

Pros: For the componentry and the higher SNR of 116db, this card rocks. Also with the fact that creative makes the only mult-core sound card (this card is a quad core sound card). I owned the original non-oem version back when it was 1st released. Dumbt me sold it off privately. Looking to buy the OEM version. Not too concerned about having a EMI shield like the non-oem does due to the fact I currently own a recon 3d pci-e that will soon go into my brother's pc that also has no emi shield and doesn't mess with the rest of my pc.

Cons: this should have been what creative released when the 1st released their quad core sound card line of the recon 3d series. Non really a con more of a "think before you act" type of thought for creative to think about before making a product.

Other Thoughts: I have own a creative product since the isa days of sound blaster. The only I would choose them over products like asus' line is that asus uses c-media dsp's on their cards and renames them to a asus branded product. From anyone who comes from the old school knows that C-media was the cheapo company for sound products and pretty much still is when making products.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Great improvement over MOBO sound. I need better speakers to really put this card through it's paces. I had to modify the mounting plate to make it fit right. I subtracted one egg because of this.

Cons: Mounting plate required modification for card to fit flat.

Other Thoughts: Except for extra work having to make the card fit right, big improvement in sound quality; can't wait to get better speakers and really push this thing.

5 out of 5 eggsupgraded from X-fi Titanium

Pros: Day and night. The surround sound is so better defined and separated. TV shows and Movies sound Amazing!!
Wanted to upgrade for a long time and the price finally came down to where I willing to buy.

Cons: Wish they would widen the space between jacks on their next card, they are a little snug when trying to use both in and out digital jacks.

5 out of 5 eggsStop Reading And Buy It Already!

Pros: Its been a long time since I had an Audigy 4 and I can't believe I didn't buy this card sooner. I'm hearing more deep bass that I've never heard before (or felt). I use these with Philips MMS321 80 Watt 2.0 speakers and they really bring them to life. I have also ordered a pair of JVC HA-RX900s and I'll update my review when they come in.

There are more than plenty of options included in the driver package. So many settings, but its not overwhelming at all. You'll need to tweak everything to your liking when you first install everything. I have yet to use Scout Mode but all my games sound as amazing as ever.

There are no annoying red LED's on this board!

Cons: The drivers that came with the CD didn't work on my board as intended. The drivers were from 2012. Not a big deal since I normally just get the latest drivers from the web.

Other Thoughts: I'm running this card on an ASUS Sabertooth x58. The drivers on the CD did not work with my mobo too well so I just downloaded the newest ones from Creative's website and It came to life.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The sound quality is excellent and the software itself is nicely designed. It delivers much better amplification then my on board audio solution.

Cons: Interference with other hardware is an issue with this card because it doesn't come with the shield in the other model. I would of liked the front audio out and the rear audio out of be registered as two different outputs in Windows instead of having the software doing the switching on the same output.

Other Thoughts: If interference is an issue then the other model with the EMI shield would be a better option.

2 out of 5 eggsanother "Great when it works"

Pros: Love the headphone amplifier... makes my Zoro HD's sound amazing. Top notch sound... when it works.

Cons: Flakey creative window 7 drivers that makes for roulette on whether you'll have sound that boot. If you don't, all you can do is a) reinstall everything again, or b) reboot and hope you get luckier than last time and the drivers work. This well known issue on the Creative forums still hasn't been fixed in the 8 months since being reported by hundreds of people.

Other Thoughts: If it worked every boot, I'd give it a 5/5. Now I have my onboard audio running also with a spare 2.5" running out the back so I can plug in 'on the fly' in case the soundblaster Z doesn't work.
