5 out of 5 eggssound blaster zed

Pros: easy installation, great sound, nice feature set, and the microphone works better then excpected. Also great price for a refurb!

Cons: nothing as of yet. card works 100%

Other Thoughts: I bought this card to replace a asus xonar dg. I usually use headphones and for gaming this card provided a better quality sound as far as spacial positioning over my older dg. It also has a headphone amp that has more power then my DG. Soundblasters sound panel has also improved alot. Much better then there old style and better then asus too.

5 out of 5 eggssigh....

Pros: good quiet[no hiss] amp, good software compatibility

Cons: its just a soundcard...

Other Thoughts: i am soooo tired of people saying soundcards are worthless because onboard audio is just as good, if you in any way think that try skyrim with a realtek chip and then try it with this, oh and having a really really great headphone amp is awesome.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, sounds great over the X-FI, Supports up to 600 Ohms for headsets.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Just a headsup on anyone worried about the refurb. This one comes factory refurbed with all the plastic and packing in the right placed. If it wasnt white boxed i would have thought it was new.

4 out of 5 eggsZOMG!

Pros: Creative finally goes back to its roots in producing remarkable sound without all the excess. Driver support has definitely improved and the TruStudio THX controls really help the card make the sound of everything pop. Being a refurbished unit I believe I lucked out on what I got because it truly works out of the box and sounds great. Headphones (I own a Plantronics Gaming Headset with open ear architecture and a hideaway mic) sound fabulous (JAZZ HANDS, lol!) and the crystal clear voice really makes a difference (even with the sound filtering quality of the headset itself). I am overall impressed with this sound card as I have been using onboard sound since I gave my brother my old Audigy 2 Fatal1ty card my wife bought for me from C-USA store closing sale.
This takes me Logitech Speakers (Wally World 5.1 piece they sell with the older design but still sound great) and makes them sing and actually works better than ASUS/Realtek onboard sound/software for creating surround sound.

Cons: Red light coming from the center plastic covering of the sound card. That is annoying and goes against my whole white-black theme for my case. The gold back slot with just icons and arrows to distinguish what is what is a bit annoying when it makes it hard to distinguish what is what even when the area is lit.
Have noticed (and this is probably my sub) that high/hard bass (if the sound is jacked) tends to distort a bit. That may be more a reflection of my speakers than the card.

Other Thoughts: I am glad to have returned to Creative and their new cards (even this refurbished one) is a great comeback. They truly are audio experts and their drivers have come a long way. Still a ways to go but (I rather miss their Cambridge SoundWorks speakers because those were some of the best cost effective speakers ever) definitely a big improvement and noticeable difference from my last card of theirs (audigy 2 fatal1ty edition).
I thought about spending for the Omega Clario or choosing from ASUS' offerings for their excellent cards but decide price was the deciding factor and so far the purchase seems justified.

4 out of 5 eggsSound Blaster Z

Pros: Went from SB Audigy (2004) to this. Immediately noticed much greater dynamic range in all audio. I use mostly for games and upgraded because the old card was not fully compatible with some games in Win7.

Cons: Sound stutters upon opening the Windows 7 logon screen. Annoying but not a deal breaker. Bought as a refurb and am wondering if this is why it was originally returned.

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad deal

Pros: Good hardware, decent price

Cons: Occasional glitches, really reverby

Other Thoughts: Par for a Creative product. Good hardware and mediocre drivers and apps. Audio is very clean. Games seem a little more echoy and reverby than before but are also very clear. A good deal for the price. You could certainly do worse.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: The parts that work are great, especially at the refurbished price point.

Cons: The card I received has a defective line-in. And, for some reason, I'm expected to pay about $10 more to return it and get a replacement that is hopefully not also broken. So, I would not recommend buying this as refurbished.

2 out of 5 eggsRefurbished for a reason.

Pros: The card does work and sounds much better than on board audio once positioned right in the PCIE slot.

Cons: The bracket on the end of the card or the PCB dimensions itself were not correctly cut/manufactured at the factory. The card will not screw straight into your case and be fully seated into the PCIE slot at the same time. If I would screw the card into my case it would be 80% seated and would only work half the time. Windows would detect the card half the time and the other half as HD Audio Controller. THE FIX.. Do not screw in the card into your case on the slot its suppose to. Seat the card in 100% into the PCIE slot, The screw hole WILL NOT LINE UP, use a small washer and screw on the slot below to allow the washer to cover the bracket to keep the card secure and 100% in the slot and detected.

Other Thoughts: Refurbished for a reason. Had horrible driver problems and I tried them all until I figured out it wasn't seating properly into the PCIE slot. All driver versions work fine after seated right.

Manufacturer Response:
