Better than most
- Pros: Tons of options. Can internally control where everything is going/recieving from what channel. I have mine set up so I can use my audio programs record any sound going into/through the computer - like streaming online radio or copyrighted CD's :) Picks up direct instrument or mixed audio with no noticeable latency. I use this card to record my band and monitor my sound.
- Cons: Drivers were a bit wonky to get working - had to sleep with the BIOS to get her to do things properly, and even then I had to buy it dinner...but in the end the child that was this card worked quite well, it was worth the effort.
- Other Thoughts: For the price, it's hard to beat. I'll admit there's far more advanced cards out there than this, and some with much easier setups/user interfaces. But if you're on a budget and still want good quality, it's hard to pass this up.
Not impressed
- Pros: Cheap, coaxial SPDIF in and out, onboard DSP processor that does a decent job for the price point.
- Cons: Drop outs. Lousy driver, Flakey overall operation
- Other Thoughts: This item is an entry level card. If it didn't have the SPDIF connections I really would consider pulling the card all together. This thing is really a tinker toy. Not to be snobbish but the thing just is such a pain to work with. It's flakey, it pops and hums for no apparent reason other than that it feels like it now and then. I'm sorry but this thing is junk for serious work. Something to play with okay but if you've got mission critical work this thing is more of a hassle than it's worth.
Great Piece of Hardware
- Pros: Awesome features and extremely compatible with the leading recording software. I've been using this along with my analog mixing desk to get extremely high quality live jam session recordings. If you're looking for a simple but powerful sound card, look no further.
- Cons: Steep learning curve to the mixing software, but once you understand it, this this is extremely powerful.
- Other Thoughts: I marked all of my output dongles with some red tape so I can easily see which is Input and which is Output.
