5 out of 5 eggsWork great

Pros: I love my creative labs 7.1 speakers. I dont have this card anymore because someone stole my computer tower a few years ago but i have no complaints with this card. It worked great up until the computer got stolen.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsS/PDIF Only 2 Channel

Pros: Better sound than the onboard audio

Cons: S/PDIF only 2 channel

Other Thoughts: I bought this for the digital out and it works but only in two channels. Customer service told me that per their techs you have to go into your receiver and change the setting, Well, I tried every thing on my Onkyo receiver and and it would not recognize more than two channels.
The analog and digital sound better than the onboard audio.

1 out of 5 eggsThis card is a junk

Pros: none

Cons: the driver won't load on Win 7 64 bit. First, the CD that came with it, just burped up a message that it can't support the op system. I download the driver from the mickey mouse site -- the installation just hangs. I buy nvidia cards for video because diamond is such a FU -- should have know the audio cards are junk too.

3 out of 5 eggsGot It Working

Pros: Just did a build on a media center PC and needed SPDIF output. Card was inexpensive for having digital output.

Cons: No driver for Windows 8. Diamond had a beta driver on their website for Win8, but it wouldn't work either. After a couple of hours trying different things, found that I could load the Win7 driver by running in compatibility mode for Win 7. After solving the driver problem, I wasn't getting sound from the SPDIF output, but then realize it was because I needed to turn it on from the sound card software, not from the control panel settings. Would have rated higher if not for the lack of Win8 support.

Other Thoughts: I see in previous posts that some folks are complaining about only two channels in SPDIF. That actually is normal. It will carry the Dolby Digital or DTS signal to the receiver and the surround processor on your receiver will decode the signal into the correct multi-channel outputs, not the sound card. So in analog, the card decodes the channels for you and outputs to your speakers. For digital, your receiver does the decoding. Try it on a movie and you should be able to hear all of the channels assuming that the movie is encoded in DD or DTS and your receiver supports DD / DTS.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful sound card

Pros: None

Cons: Sound distorts even at medium levels. I got the card for the SPDIF input but the port doesn't even work at all. I could not find any drivers on the internet to make the SPDIF input work.

Other Thoughts: Your money is better spent somewhere else.

4 out of 5 eggsValue Card

Pros: It's price, you can't beat. Nice crisp sound even with my 2.1 system. If I want to update someday to a surround sound system this card will suffice.

Cons: The CD driver that came with this was dated 05. You have to go to the Diamond Website to get the correct driver if your using Vista or Win 7. Plus you most likely want the most up to date driver anyways.

Other Thoughts: Love New Egg. I live in not the most populated area, yet receive whatever I order within 2 days. It's hard to beat their competitive prices as well.

2 out of 5 eggstoo good to be true

Pros: Price is great, installs easily, looks like it will work great

Cons: Had to search for the Win7 drivers, installed them, couldn't get more than 2.1 out of the digital Coax. tried reinstalling, chipset drivers, etc... nothing worked. did some internet research found that despite what the card looks like or seems like it should do (run 7.1 sound through the outputs), it doesn't actually do 7.1 (or 5.1) sound through the digital outputs, only 2.1. Read a reviewer who stated the manufacturer service line states the card doesn't state that it does 7.1 through the coax output. This is accurate, but how many people have bought and returned this card because they assumed that since it doesn't say that it WON'T do 7.1 through digital that it would actually do what they wanted?

Other Thoughts: With the pricing, and the price to return the card, I only came out $10 behind, but still. Misrepresentation by the manufacturer, no matter how they want to spin it.

1 out of 5 eggsReInstall Windows

Pros: Will kill time.

Cons: Disabled on board sound in Bios. Booted and installed the drivers off the CD. Restarted.....Windows wouldn't start up. GOOD Think I use Acronis, so I had an image to restore my C Partition.....feel sorry for anybody without image recovery.

Then tried the open source drivers.....tried the CMedia Drivers.....No Sound.

Finally gave up on this Time Vampire........RMA'd

Other Thoughts: Bought this cause I figured it would run good on my XP Pro system.....WRONG. Maybe they f'd up the drivers trying to make it work on Vista and 7 .......What a royal PITA. Like someone else said "Think LONG and HARD b4 buying this piece of junk"

2 out of 5 eggsCoax S/PDIF Doesnt work

Pros: 7.1 audio, nice interface, clear sound.

Cons: Coax S/PDIF Does Not Work! I purchased this unit to use the Coax digital output with a unit here at the church. Computer is running Windows 7 x64. Drivers out of the box would not work at all. Visited their site and downloaded the updated driver, (I do this anyway so no big deal about the CD). Card works fine if using the 3.5mm jacks and a 7.1 unit installation. However I purchased the unit to work with a studio device that uses a coax digital. Installed the cable and no sound from the card. Enter setting in control panel and set device accordly. Still no sound. Return to the 3.5mm connections...Works great. Sadly no sound through coax. Not worth the time to return 29.99 was the price so not a big deal just disappointing. I did test the device I was connecting it worked as stated using a THX unit. Shoot! :(

Other Thoughts: For the money its a great card if you dont need the S\PDIF the price is reasonable as well. However it will be my last Diamond purchase I dont like having to purchase another device to replace this one.

4 out of 5 eggsGood audio card

Pros: * S/PDIF coaxial (RCA) out works
* Full surround

Cons: * This is a big card, so don't plan on using this for a slim build
* Win7 x64 drivers were fairly difficult to locate, but ultimately Windows should direct you to the correct download
