Turtle Beach
Audio Advantage Amigo II

The Amigo II USB sound card adds a stereo output and mic input to a Mac or PC and converts a standard headset into a USB headset. Because it uses a USB digital connection, the Amigo II isolates the audio signal from the noisy electronics inside a PC or laptop to provide higher-quality sound. With a single USB connection, the Amigo II lets you conveniently add another sound port to your PC or laptop for easy access wherever you go. The stereo output can be used for connecting powered speakers, headphones or an external recording device. The microphone input can be used for connecting an external microphone or the boom mic on a headset. Amigo is a great accessory for laptop owners who want to enjoy high-quality audio on the road or at home.

5 out of 5 eggsPS4 Compatible

Pros: This works with the PS4.
The usb device allows one to use an exisiting headset (with 3.5mm earphone and 3.5mm microphone cables). Rather than buy an expensive usb headset, use this cheaper alternative with your existing headset.

It will be detected as “usb headset (turtle beach usb audio)” under Settings > Devices > Audio Devices.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsGood sound quality not very useful for headset.

Pros: The sound is quite good. The plug n play worked well on win 7-64 and win 8.1-64. Works on USB 2 or 3.

Cons: There is always a loopback from mic in to the output. It cannot be turned off. Tech support has not suggested anything I haven't already tried. Thus the loopback still exists. Perhaps they will come up with something. It seems the hardware within the dongle ( the codec perhaps) has loopback set. Most codecs allow you to set this up with a configuration bit within the codec. Normally one doesn't do this on their products so it can be handles by software. This loopback is very annoying. You can only use this if you use 1 of the 2 connections. Then you don't hear the loopback.

Other Thoughts: I will most likely send these back as I can only use either the output or the input but not both. There are many products that do this. Also since the dongle is electrically connected to the computer it doesn't really isolate you from the noise of the computer power supply. It does however keep the codec away from any radiated noise within the computer. The advertising is a little overboard on this "feature"

4 out of 5 eggsAs Advertised

Pros: Plug and play. No software needed, no conflicts.

Cons: Didn't clean up the sound chain I was hoping for; on-board sound.

1 out of 5 eggsNoise

Pros: Easy install on both Windows and Mac

Cons: More noise than sound

Pop, crackle, hiss

Other Thoughts: I bought this to try to get rid of some of the horrific power supply noise on a new Dell laptop which is a complete piece of garbage. Dell's power supplies are so horrific that you can hear every head movement of the harddrive clearly through the headphone output. Also, there is deafening static from the Dell that I was hoping Turtle Beach could overcome some of the poor Dell quality and produce a decent sound instead of noise, but I was disappointed. Even Turtle Beach can't overcome Dell's problems. It only cut the noise slightly.

So if you're buying this to get around Dell's poor quality sound output, don't bother. It isn't good enough to only more than barely help overcome Dell's serious flaws. The Dell engineers must be deaf.

5 out of 5 eggsJust plug it in. And it works.

Pros: XP - Just plug it in, and it works
7-64 - Just plug it in, and it works.

Not sure what problem the other reviewer was having.

Cons: Didn't come free in a cereal box.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Not a single one. This thing is junk.

Cons: Just plug in and it works! Not really. There are also no driver downloads on the manufacturer website. Only a text file that says you don't need drivers. Attempted to live chat support, waiting 15 minutes to connect to someone, no one ever showed up. Currently going back and forth with email support, but I can see me returning this piece of junk and buying a new internal sound card.

Other Thoughts: I don't care what they say, it's not plug and play for jack. Worked fine on an XP computer, but not 64 bit Vista or Windows 7. Well, I don't need it for the XP computer, I need it for the Vista 64 computer. Why they don't have driver downloads is beyond me. Very stupid.

2 out of 5 eggsNot the best

Pros: Worked. It gave me sound on my computer.
Easy to install.

Cons: Quality was extremely bad, a beeping/buzzing constantly occurred. Broke for no reason over night...

Other Thoughts: I bought this a few months ago because the onboard sound on my "TUFF" asus sabertooth 990fx broke because of what seems to be a .5 mm light scratch on the fiber cables that run down the side of the motherboard. This thing worked for a while but the quality was lacking. But it did its job, last night I was using it and this morning it did'nt work. I tried everything. I am just going to get an actual pci sound card this time or maybe a new motherboard...

5 out of 5 eggsFine, just fine

Pros: It works.. Seriously, plug and play, no drivers needed for Windows. Darn thing just works.

Cons: Microphone still a teensy bit quiet but not horribly so.

Other Thoughts: This was to fix a microphone problem I had in a Lenovo Y500. An otherwise nearly perfect laptop, it's microphone jack is completely useless without a mic pre-amp. Got the laptop for a great price so I wasn't going to return it and I know this is a problem with similar laptops (the Sager / Cleo line up comes to mind). In comes Turtle Beach with a $30 solution that worked right the first time. No drivers needed. When I want to use my laptop speakers instead of a headset, I just unplug the Amigo. My headset will probably be permanently attached to the Amigo. Thank you Turtle Beach. I'm saddened that your once great empire of sound cards got pushed to the side by the likes of Creative Labs and Realtek. The former making only one good sound card: The original SoundBlaster (They had to buy Ensoniq to get their next good card) and the latter making a good... Well, nothing good really.
