Treat your ears to the ultimate audio experience for digital music, DVDs and gaming by upgrading your desktop system to the Montego DDL (Dolby Digital Live) sound card from Turtle Beach. Dolby Digital Live converts any audio signal into a Dolby Digital bitstream for playback through a home-theater system via a single cable.

Analog audio outputs for up to 7.1-channel sound systems are built into the board along with an optical 7.1-channel digital S/PDIF output for pass-through of Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel DVD sound with 24-bit resolution at 48KHz or 96KHz. Installation is simple and straightforward. Just seat the card in a vacant PCI card slot in your desktop and install the drivers from the included disk and you're ready to connect your speakers and enjoy high-quality audio.

Gamers will enjoy the broad support for immersive audio APIs like EAX 1 and 2, A3D, I3DL2 and DirectSound 3D. An optical digital input lets you connect to the latest home-theater components for low-noise, high fidelity audio reproduction. There's a line-in jack for recording from music equipment, CD players and digital audio players directly to your PC. An external mic input is onboard, too, for connecting a microphone for recording sound or for video conferencing, gaming or Internet phone calls or chat.

  • newegg S/PDIF Input and Output The S/PDIF input supports recording of digital audio from external sources, while S/PDIF output allows pass-through of Dolby Digital and DTS DVD formats for pure digital quality surround sound on A/V receivers or digital speakers.
  • newegg 7.1 Surround Sound With 8 analog line output channels, enjoy multi-channel music, games and DVDs on 7.1-channel speaker systems.
  • newegg Dolby Digital Live Support With support for Dolby Digital Live, hook up your PC to a Dolby Digital-equipped audio/video receiver or digital speaker system via a single digital connection for absolute audio signal integrity.
  • newegg Supports Game Surround Sound APIs The Turtle Beach Montego DDL supports multiple game surround sound APIs including EAX, A3D, I3DL2 and DirectSound 3D to deliver the most immersive 3D sound effects available.

4 out of 5 eggsOptical Audio, Still works with modern systems

Pros: The optical audio still works in systems with PCI only slots open. I have been using this with Windows 7 and it works in full. I run it in full PCM lossless audio but all options work.

Its also dirt cheap if you find one, keep a lookout on old systems that still have it installed.

Cons: Turtle Beach does not give support anymore to their old card lines. Actual Software does not work from turtle beach however I have gotten the drivers elsewhere. I installed the turtle beach stuff from disk, but it doesn't really work. I have left it installed on the off chance it installed something driver wise to make things run smooth.

Other Thoughts: You need to find the driver for the audio chip. CMI8768+ drivers came with Xear3D Software from C-Media Audio Controller. You will need to search around, as it is a bit difficult to find. May have to deal with sites in diff languages or hosted file sites. is my current driver package.

Hooked this up to my Home Theater Receiver and my system is a complete surround sound media center. So if you come across this post and have a good deal on this card. Do it, but be prepared to search for the driver. I got a lot of 5 different TB cards for 25 dollars from a computer place clearing out old stock. Great deal.

5 out of 5 eggsEgg-cellent

Pros: Awesome 7.1 surround sound card, my mobo already had built in 5.1, but i had the turtlebeach 7.1 headset, so why the hell not get this.

Cons: cant think of any, maybe that you must install software to properly display and use ui, otherwise why no 9.1 or 11.1 o.O

Other Thoughts: PX5 Wireless 7.1 DD Surround Sound, using triple protected optical audio link

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best "period!"

Pros: Sound Quality. I have spent huge sums on sound cards and money is no object when it comes to sound. This hands down has been the best sound card I have ever purchased. I am saddened today to find the product has been discontinued. 4/13/2012

Cons: product Discontinued : (

Other Thoughts: Early in the build around 2006 the TB drivers sucked- I used HT-striker drivers which were simply AMAZING! then TB stepped up it's game and provided better drivers. This is the BEST!

3 out of 5 eggsBad Packaging

Pros: Its small. Sound quality is not bad. A few good software options.

Cons: Terrible Packaging!!! Upon opening the box I found three items. The card wrapped poorly, instructions, and the CD out of its casing. Guess what, this was not OEM.

Other Thoughts: A good motherboard will come with sound integration. And unless you are into music/sound recording there is no need for this card. You will not notice the difference between the two. In fact, if you are into music/sound recording you would require something better.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for the Buck

Pros: Cost, excellent sound, Optical Out

Cons: Only Optical In (Stereo)

Other Thoughts: I installed this into my home theater PC mainly because I needed Optical out to my receiver. Easy install, excellent quality, (win7/64/Downloaded Drivers). A+++++, glad I found this gem.

5 out of 5 eggsSUPPORTS XP/VISTA/WIN7 OS 64 AND 32 BIT!!!!!!!!!

Pros: First of all I would like to say THE DISC DOES COME WITH DRIVERS FOR XP/VISTA/WIN 7 32 & 64 BIT OS. THERE! I've had it a me guys. Totally worth the money.
---Tons of features for system imput, analog output, s/pdif output, Mixer.
---Sound quality is just as good or better than my $100 creative labs card I replaced.
---Love the effects, equilizer, frequency, and ez environment settings.
---Karaoke/Magic Voice effects are sweet. Masks your voice as a Monster, Chipmunk, Man, Woman. Can adjust the key pitch of each one, though it's hardly a change. Doesn't exaggerate the shifting as it should.

Overall an outstanding card for the money. Everything is crystal clear. I'm able to hear everything in my music/games/dvd's. Though some games dont support DDL but whatever. Still the best card I've heard so far even out of my basic Logitec 7.1 speakers and my 5.1 Turtle Beach HPA 2 Headset.

Cons: My only con.....which is my that I read too much into everyone's review and SKIPPED USING THE CD'S DRIVERS!!! Instead I went straight to their website.....trail and error'd through their drivers that dont work anymore. Spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to make this card work properly......when all else failed.....I put the cd in.....saw where it had DRIVERS FOR 32 & 64 bit xp/vista/win 7 OS.......then i self consciously slapped myself in the face and enjoyed this sound card.

Other Thoughts: Please please please do not listen to anyone's review about driver issues etc. @@@@@@@ALL DRIVERS ARE ON THE CD@@@@@@@ Thanks and have a good day <3

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: Wow, am I impressed! Quite a few years ago I purchased a TB sound card and had nothing but troubles (Sound corruption, computer lockups, etc...). All of that has changed! Games & Music sound incredible! It seems to have a much better ambience to them. I can definitely hear a solid separation between channels! Anyone putting together a HTPC should love this card!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: I had originally had an HT Omega sound card, but during a rebuild, I somehow knocked off one of the resistors. Being a little upset I decided to go a different route and buy this card. I couldn’t be happier! In fact I’m ordering another card for my AMD machine! Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: For the price, it's an amazing sounding card. The DDL works really well.

Cons: Wish more games allowed the use of it's ddl surround.

Other Thoughts: This cards works well with every single Operating Systems that I have ever used, this includes Windows XP, Vista (32 AND 64 bit) and Windows 7 32 AND 64 bit. Yes, thats right, 64 works extremely well. (Just make sure to go to turtle beach's website to get the latest drivers. Do not use install disk!!!!!!)
