Upgrade from your motherboard's integrated audio chipset and immerse your self in true 5.1-channel sound with the Chaintech AV-512 sound card. Whether you're watching a DVD, listening to music or playing your favorite 3D games the AV-512 provides full surround sound thanks to front, rear, center, subwoofer and rear center inputs.
There's a line-in jack for recording from music equipment, CD players and digital audio players directly to your PC. An external mic input is onboard, too, for connecting a microphone for recording sound or for video conferencing, gaming or Internet phone calls or chat. A MIDI port is available on the card as well. Connect an optional MIDI adapter cable and you can hook up your MIDI keyboard equipment or game controller.
Installation is simple and straightforward. Just seat the card in a vacant PCI card slot in your desktop and install the drivers from the included disk and you're ready to connect your speakers and enjoy high-quality audio.

Great card for the price
- Pros: Easy installation. I downloaded the drivers off of http://www.cmedia.com.tw for the CMI 8738 Chipset and installed the card with these instead of using the ones on the disc. Was up and running in minutes. It corrected the graphics stuttering issues in many games due to the use of Sigmatel onboard audio. Oh and for those who claim it does not work in Windows Vista, it does, you just have to obtain drivers through Windows Update.
- Cons: The CD that was pictured on New egg's description page for this sound card is not what was in the box. It is a different CD altogether. Wish it would of came with WinDVD. But I already have WinDVD 8 so it does not matter.
- Other Thoughts: I am happy with this sound card. I did not expect a lot from it and you should not either. It is strictly meant for those on a budget and not someone who has a million dollars looking for something bigger. You get what you pay for as they always say, and I am a firm believer of that.
No issues, great sound
- Pros: As an OEM system builder and service provider with 20+ years in computers, this soundcard is ideal for repairing broken onboard sound cards or as an addon replacement where the user requires a midi/gameport when one is not provided by the onboard sound solution. Sound quality is only as good as your speakers; that being said, this card competes with the best offerings of the supposed best companies. Doesn't have trashy bloated drivers as a lot of the "big name" sound systems do.
- Cons: As with any device that requires an addon device driver, the driver provided on the disk is outdated. This seems to be an industry standard. Download the driver from the chipset manufacturer and there will be zero issues.

BLECK
- Pros: Easy to install. Cheap
- Cons: You get what you paid for. It ended up dragging my system down and crashing my pc on a daily basis. Tried to find updated drivers online for it and had no luck. All in all the only thing i use it for now is to play frisbie with my dog.
- Other Thoughts: Don't bother with this just go with either on-board sound or buy a brand you know will work.

Does the job
- Pros: Needed to add a MIDI port to my Windows XP desktop. Followed the suggestion of a previous reviewer and installed the driver from http://www.cmedia.com.tw, selecting the CMI 8738 Chipset. Everything worked out smoothly. Perfect low cost solution.
- Cons: The manual is misleading. It shows a couple of versions of the card, none of which matches the actual card that is in the package.
- Other Thoughts: The brand of the card is Audioexcel, not Chaintech.
