excellent low cost recording solution
- Pros: This card is an excellent solution for a home recording setup, giving you 8 analog inputs. The analog to digital converters are of good quality and the card does not introduce any measurable amount of noise into your recordings. This is the least expensive solution I have seen with this many channels. I use it with a modest Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (2.5 Ghz) and 4 GB DDR2 and have no problems with recording all 8 channels or latency. This card works flawlessly in Ubuntu Linux with zero setup.
- Cons: The 2 mic level inputs are kind of silly. If you are recording 8 channels, it is a safe bet that you have a separate mixer or preamps that you are using. It isn't a big deal, but this creates a small hassle because to use all 8 inputs you need 2 different kinds of connectors (2 XLR and 6 RCA).
- Other Thoughts: I bought an 8 channel 1/4" to RCA snake to hook my mixer up to this only to discover when I got it that you need 2 XLR connectors in addition to 6 RCA connectors to use all 8 channels.
- Comments: Best sound card ever. ive compared it to my friends motu card which cost him way more than this, and the quality was better with the 1010lt. im currently using it in my home recording studio with nothing but good results. Newegg rocks!
Incredible Card
- Comments: I've owned this card for about 18 months, and let me say, it is a SOLID card. For home music production, you can't really get much better, unless you're wanting ADAT. This has everything from MIDI, RCA, to Word Clock. Latency is extremely low, and recordings sound nice and crisp.
I would recommend a nice stand alone preamp if you want to record with a condensor mic, rather than the XLR jacks on the card. Also, it can be a bit clunky with all those cables hanging off the back of your PC, but other than that..the product is fine. If you're serious into home recording, get this card.
