Getting professional-quality recordings out of your Windows or Mac computer demands a pro solution. M-Audio's FireWire 410 audio/MIDI interface has all the features you need to help you create, produce and playback your personal recording sessions—all in a compact, FireWire-powered package. The 410 features four inputs and 10 outputs complete with preamps for 48dB gain for instruments like guitar and bass and up to 66dB gain for microphones.
Eight, one-fourth-inch outputs and ASIO 2-compliant software-controlled routing and mixing allow you to send individual signals to separate channels on an external mixer or directly drive the components of a surround sound system. Any output pair can also produce high-definition 24-bit/192kHz signals for high-end audio formats like DVD-Audio. There are single digital S/PDIF input and output jacks as well, so you can transfer to and from digital devices such as CD players, DATs and MiniDisc systems at sample rates of 44.1kHz, 48kHz or 96kHz.
Two headphone outs with independent level controls let you easily compose, record and mix with a partner. And of course there's a built-in MIDI interface. A bypass switch allows throughput from MIDI In to MIDI Out so your equipment stays connected even when your computer is off or you're working on other non-music tasks.Don't want to touch your mouse for every little adjustment? The front-panel level controller gives you instant control of output level and with the included software you can assign it to adjust the software return bus, input, phones, or aux send.

the best!
- Comments: this is the best firewire multichannel audio interface you can get for the price! Oh, wait...its the only one you can get at this price! all the other good ones start at like $800! Im a regular newegg customer but I didnt get it here. (didnt know they had em!) I got mine from my local music store. I was using a Tascam 424 usb audio interface. Then it just up and died. I also was using a gigaport AG with my laptop....and Its usless! They have the worst drivers. the 410 works perfectly w/xp pro! super nice software mixer!(driver) If you are serious about digital audio this is your only choice! keep the usb ports for your mouse and printer!
regarding previous review:
- Pros: Absolutely worth the money
- Cons: Would prefer to have the mic/line inputs on the rear.
- Other Thoughts: Regarding a previous reviewer who said this is only a 2x8... no, no, no. True, there are 2 analog in and 8 analog outs. However, remember this is the 2000s, not the 80s and many many devices you will be using now and in the future will be digital source. DAT, MD, digital mixers submixed into this box, etc. And the SPDIF out is a true out as well, whether you route it to be a master out, or just two more output channels. Its 4x10, no matter how you slice it.

Don't waste your time
- Pros: If this is the only firewire device you have on a system that does not have a number of other devices (like USB devices), then you should be OK. It is a nice sound interface, and did output high quality sound.
- Cons: This device does not play well with other Firewire devices, and can have trouble with USB devices as well. I think the driver implementation must be very poor, or something is up with the hardware design. I've had it for over a year, and I am finally calling it quits. M-Audio tech support is useless, telling me to reformat Windows XP and hope for better IRQ assignments. This is bush; I've tried this device with three different PCs, including my new build, and it simply won't work if you have another FW 400 device. It even conflicted with a USB joystick. Either it screws up the other device (like a DV camera or interface, so I can't use it with for sound output with video editing) or the sound output gets munged up (so you can't use it with a joystick, drawing tablet, etc.)
- Other Thoughts: I went the Firewire route because I was tired of IRQ conflicts with Soundblaster and other cards. I upped the ante with this device, as I got into serious video editing, as well as audio creation and editing. I originally thought my issue was putting this on the same firewire card as another device. However, I have the same issues with devices on separate cards, purchased just to avoid that issue. If you have a dedicated audio editing station with ProTools, this might be good for you. Otherwise, stay away.
Down pricing newegg
- Pros: Great product just go by other stuff
- Cons: down
- Other Thoughts: Ok I'm not reviewing simply telling newegg and buyers that if u go to a music site it's $50 cheaper which im surprised newegg let this one slip but im telling u guys now about it and I won't list any sites that do have it cuz newegg is a good site just lower the price newegg cuz i know u prolly won't post this anyways
Competent Hardware with Atrocious Driver Support
- Pros: A competent audio interface, especially at this pricepoint.
- Cons: The driver support behind this product is terrible and, in my opinion, handled unprofessionally by M-Audio. Those of us running Vista had to wait six months before they even acknowledged working on a driver and a year after its release still have no idea whether x64 support is even forthcoming. At the very least, there should be a roadmap--not silence. I have learned that you get what you pay for with this type of peripheral and have invested in a Motu UltraLite.
