Works great under Windows 2003 Server / Great tech support
- Pros: * Bluegears has quick and helpful tech support
* Great, clean sound * Dolby Digital Live / DTS Connect * Stable 2000/2003/XP drivers
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I bought this card after a decent amount of research and it seemed to offer the best value for the features I was looking for (specifically DTS Connect).
My only apprehension when buying this card was I could not find any reference to the card working under Windows 2003. I only saw references to 2000/XP.
I decided to email tech support before ordering and I was extremely impressed by how fast they responded. I emailed them first thing Monday morning, and they must have emailed me as soon as they got in (time zone differences). He was very helpful and said that it should definitely work and if I had any issues to contact him. So I decided to order the card.
All in all the card has worked great. Software install was seamless, the non-bloated setup software works well, the card sounds great and I am able to listen to 5.1 audio through my receiver with only an optical cable (Note that there is no coaxial digital out).
I highly recommend it.
GOOOD
- Pros: Sound Blaster X-Fi Watch out here comes a real sound card. Sound Blaster Claimed they had 24-Bit Card and they got a lawsuit. Audigy Bords only had 24-bit DSP's bit the card rendered in 16-bit. But this card is Real 24-bit. Its Got REALTIME Upconversion from 2ch to 5.1 and 7.1. It outputs DTS and Dolby Digital Streams. Plus it has EAX 2.0 And Aureal 3D 2.0, Dolby Digital Live. You cant beat the price.
- Cons: No Cons Just all Pros
- Other Thoughts: 4 Tims better Than Sound Blaster Can Ever Be. After they Lied about The Audigy Series Cards with i spent Redicilous Amout of money on my Audigy 2 PLAT EX I will never buy a Sound blaster Product again. It isnt the first time they bent the truth!!!!

Great alternative from creative
- Pros: Works as advertised.
Drivers work in Vista 64 without a problem. Drivers are not bloated and barely use any resources. Easy setup and installation. Sounds wat better than onboard audio like it should.
- Cons: Some of the options are useless. Like the NEO DTS pro logic etc. for typical gaming and music. This isn't really a con just an opinion of mine. It may sound great for movies on a 7.1 surround system but that's not what I'm using it for.
- Other Thoughts: Awesome for the price and its a great alternative to Creative which has terrible support. If you have a great pair of headphones like my sennheisers you will be amazed at the difference coming from onboard audio. It makes music and gaming that much more fun.
Failed after 1 year 10 months
- Pros: The card worked fine while it lasted. The sound quality was great.
- Cons: Mine just died today after 1 year and 10 months. As several other people have said, the likelihood of this sound card failing after a year goes way up. And the warranty just happens to be 1 year. I'm just lucky I got 10 extra months out of it.
The card very suddenly stopped outputting sound. When I set my speaker (Logitech Z-4) volume at max, the sound is barely audible when technically it should be blasting. I thought it was the speakers but I connected them to my onboard sound and it's completely fine. So the bgears card has definitely failed.
The value is not there. It's not worth the cost for a card that dies after a year. I want a sound card that really lasts, not one that fails after a year.
- Other Thoughts: Actually in the last several months I had intermittent glitches that I kind of just dismissed. I'd get rare static-like interference that was random and went away quickly. But it happened enough for me to notice it. Also, sometimes when I loaded up some games, the left and right channels would be switched. I had no idea why it was doing this. These two problems cropped after a year. Probably precursors to today's complete failure.
Also, I had to use Wave output in Windows Media Player instead of Direct3d because I'd get a blue screen crash everytime I played anything with AC3 codec. I wrote about this in my first review of this card here. And the annoying thing about wave output is that the volume control in WMP is synced with your system's wave volume. So if close WMP without clicking stop first, it mutes your system wave volume. Or if you pause in WMP, it mutes you wave volume. You have to open up Windows volume control and turn wave volume back up.
ty its not CREATIVE
- Pros: ITS NOT CREATIVE. the sound is awesome , the inputs is nice. No BLOATWARE like creative. drivers installed from website was simple and it works great with vista 64. im using 180 watt acoustic authority. i had a creative card and the b gears blows it away.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: For the guy that wants great sound but doesn't want his wife to kill him for spending 300 on a sound card this cards for you.
