The ASUS Xonar D1 is a PCI sound card with a 116 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), which provides audio that is 35 times cleaner than onboard audio. With the support of Dolby technologies and GX2.5, the Xonar D1 provides rich audio effects in games and theater quality audio in movies.

Dolby is globally recognized for their innovations in audio for cinemas, home theaters, PCs, and games. With Dolby technologies, your PC can be upgraded to surround sound and transformed into an immersive digital entertainment center.

ASUS designed GX2.5 to simulate EAX game effects and makes them available on Windows Vista/7 PCs. GX2.5 will automatically emulate the latest EAX technologies without additional software.

  • newegg High Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) A high SNR rating means less unwanted noise. Therefore the audio is cleaner which translates to better sound quality. The Xonar D1 achieves a 116 dB SNR rating for clear audio in games, movies, and music.
  • newegg Dolby Technologies A rich Dolby feature set is supported in order to enhance PC audio with surround sound. A surround sound experience can be achieved with as little as two speakers or even headphones.
  • newegg GX2.5 GX2.5 automatically emulates the latest EAX technology – up to EAX5.0, to offer advanced environmental audio effects. While enhancing the feeling of actually being in the game, GX2.5 also improves on directional audio information.
  • newegg Low Profile The Xonar D1 is bundled with a low profile bracket for compatibility with HTPC cases.
  • newegg VocalFX VocalFX is an innovative voice processing technology to let your voice get into the realistic game landscape (VoiceEX) or to emulate the background scenes in online chat (ChatEX). It also allows you to change your voice pitch to disguise who you are (Magic Voice).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mainstream soundcard!

Pros: Excellent sound reproduction. Also boosts the sound, a feature which many people who say you don't need a soundcard are missing. I love that you can still get a PCI card that has updated drivers that work in W8.1!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to pick up the drivers off the ASUS website. Nothing else works. Take the time to do it right and you'll have great sound, hassle free.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!!!! Buy This. Seriously.

Pros: Upgraded from Audigy 2zs that died after 10 years of daily use. (what a great card throughout all my builds)

Claim of the audigy was 108 SNR

Claim of this D1 Xonar: 116. That is no lie. The sound resolution was more distinct, crisp, clear. Potent sound. Made my Klipsch 2.1 Promedia totally rock. Even better than the 2zs.

Running on Windows 7 professional x64. I used Driver cleaner to wipe the old ones. Was a good idea.

Cons: No issues. Great piece of electronics for the money.

Only issue are people's suggestions to use some non whql drivers. GOOD LUCK with them. The Uni drivers from the nice people that make them, the enthusiast ones, I could not get to work. They seem really cool, but nope. The non-beta one from Asus site are fine. Most recent non beta.

Other Thoughts: People are complaining about how Asus drivers are not updated often.

How about this: Creative drivers I used were not updated in like 5 years. Why???! Um, because they work. The drivers work. You need to driversweaper or driverfusion. Either one seems fine. both were free, so why not use them both. I think this made the difference. I had realtek, creative and asus drivers hidden. Good to wipe them out for the audiostack in win7/vista etc.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: amazing sound, clean, clear, powerful sound card...
compact (easy to install)

Cons: no auto-detect front panel aux (have to do it manually)

Other Thoughts: Sounds great that makes my onboard (Realtek ALC 892) sound card looks like if it was 15 years old, I hate myself for not buying this sound card long time ago, you have to hear it to believe... I use creative gigaworks T40 Series II. pair of speakers and you can tell the difference right away.

5 out of 5 eggsgood sound

Pros: had this card for almost 2 years now. still working great. the sound is noticeably better than integrated mobo audio. works fine with linux -- at least the versions i've used.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: bought this to replace a xonar d2x that died after a year. the d2x seemed to run hot. don't know if it was defective or what. the d1 audio is quite good and doesn't get too hot.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Great sound, easy install with Ubuntu.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card because I couldn't stand my HTPC music anymore. I dealt with MP3s compression but after burning some FLAC and revisiting my analog set-up, I realized I couldn't listen to the onboard sound anymore.I put this card in, rebooted and was listening to the sounds I have missed as we transition into digital music.

I'm not sure what other reviewers mean by poor software. There really should be no software with a sound card. Drivers for compatability maybe. But those reviewers are more tech savy then I will ever be.

4 out of 5 eggsXonar D1

Pros: Great card. Sounds fantastic.

Cons: Software is not up to standards. It would probably be good if it came with a card in the 1970's. A quality card with inferior software. Overall rating would be a 5 if it had better software. Not the easiest to set up. However, when it works it works great.

Other Thoughts: Great combination with the Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset.

4 out of 5 eggsReliable, good sound

Pros: -UI interface is clean, many option for equalizing
-Front panel HD audio support
-PCI (for me it's a plus, GPU is blocking PCIe x1 slot on mATX mobo)

Cons: -Plug tagging hard to clearly read but once you,ve plug your stuff, it doesn't really mather, yet it's eye breaking! Will crack an egg because it would have been possible to "improve" this at cheap cost.

Other Thoughts: Bought this card couple years ago elsewhere, still work fine since the last driver update (2013ish), pretty configurable, really good sound quality IMO, no regret at all, if you want a PCI Sound Card that last long and have quality, take this one! I would take another one for HTPC music playing

5 out of 5 eggsGood card

Pros: Good sound on my 5.1 speakers. I had a SB card on my XP machine and upgraded to win 7 and Creative didn't have any drivers for win 7 so I went for the ASUS D1 and wow, it's excellent. Way better than the old Sound Blaster.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately I read a lot of bad reviews on installation of this card so I went to ASUS's site and DL'd their drvrs 4 win 7 and I went to the Universal site for their win 7 drvrs so that I would be prepared. NEITHER of those drvrs worked! Error "Please plug in audio device". So I tried the CD with XP and Vista drvrs that came with the card and it installed smoothly.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible + Drivers were awful.

Pros: The only good thing was when I got the audio that I wanted until the drivers crashed for the 3rd time.

Cons: The drivers are awful. I would suggest having your own and knowing how to operate them correctly, otherwise buy a card made by Creative.

Other Thoughts: ._.

5 out of 5 eggsEcellentc all around card

Pros: -Great sound
-optical out
-small size
-good price for quality
-good drivers
-easy to install and use

Cons: -the outputs could be better labeled
-it could be cheaper

Other Thoughts: overall a great card got it to replace a Creative X-Fi that stopped working. ASUS drivers take less resources than creative. the optical out is amazing when hooked up to a receive. For a sub $100 card its well worth it. small, reliable both physically and software.
