The ASUS Xonar D1 is a PCI sound card with a 116 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), which provides audio that is 35 times cleaner than onboard audio. With the support of Dolby technologies and GX2.5, the Xonar D1 provides rich audio effects in games and theater quality audio in movies.

Dolby is globally recognized for their innovations in audio for cinemas, home theaters, PCs, and games. With Dolby technologies, your PC can be upgraded to surround sound and transformed into an immersive digital entertainment center.

ASUS designed GX2.5 to simulate EAX game effects and makes them available on Windows Vista/7 PCs. GX2.5 will automatically emulate the latest EAX technologies without additional software.

  • newegg High Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) A high SNR rating means less unwanted noise. Therefore the audio is cleaner which translates to better sound quality. The Xonar D1 achieves a 116 dB SNR rating for clear audio in games, movies, and music.
  • newegg Dolby Technologies A rich Dolby feature set is supported in order to enhance PC audio with surround sound. A surround sound experience can be achieved with as little as two speakers or even headphones.
  • newegg GX2.5 GX2.5 automatically emulates the latest EAX technology – up to EAX5.0, to offer advanced environmental audio effects. While enhancing the feeling of actually being in the game, GX2.5 also improves on directional audio information.
  • newegg Low Profile The Xonar D1 is bundled with a low profile bracket for compatibility with HTPC cases.
  • newegg VocalFX VocalFX is an innovative voice processing technology to let your voice get into the realistic game landscape (VoiceEX) or to emulate the background scenes in online chat (ChatEX). It also allows you to change your voice pitch to disguise who you are (Magic Voice).

5 out of 5 eggsVery good card

Pros: Was shipped very fast and was happy with the condition it was in. I'm no audiophile but this blows my onboard audio out of the water. Very crisp and clear. Was an easy set up, put card into my computer connected it to the mobo (DUH) went to asus's website to install the drivers and it worked right away. I havn't fiddled with the settings yet but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Cons: None so far, ill come back if anything changes though hah

Other Thoughts: I considered this card or the one just below it. Decided to go with the more expensive one and am very glad I did. A friend of mine has the dx I think it is called and it has great audio to but this one is a bit better. Altough I am biased since I just spent $110 on it.

5 out of 5 eggsAdditionally...

Pros: this is by far better than the xFi sound card my roommate had.

Cons: none, seriously! Dirt3 Scion tC sounds EPIC!!!

Other Thoughts: i'm unsure about its comparison to the newer xFi sound cards, but this one for the price, and the quality, stomps all over xFi sound cards!

Pros: it is awesome, just pop it in, connect front panel, install drivers and application, ENJOY!

Cons: NONE!!!!

Other Thoughts: I didn't even have to disable the on board audio to be able to run windows with this card, probably cuz i have an ASUS mobo!!!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card!

Pros: I'm using this with my media center computer on a Pioneer receiver with a Bose 5.1 surround system. After I finally got it set up (more on that in a minute) I was blown away by the difference in audio quality. I am kicking my self in the pants for not ordering this card much, much sooner. Everything from live TV and movies to music is greatly enhanced. The surround sound is far more noticeable than it was from the on board card. This will also output the audio in a PCM format that is compatible with my surround receiver (functionally that was claimed by the on board, but never worked.)

Cons: My SPDIF out header cable to my video card for HDMI is split into two individual pins on the audio card side. There is absolutely no documentation any where on the Asus site or in the installation manual for the pinout of that header. This would be extremely useful and after about a half an hour of searching the web and coming up dry, I winged it and moved the pins around until sound came out. If any one else runs into this problem, here is the solution I came up with:

Pins: XX0X (0 = no pin)
SPIDIF is second on in on the left
Far right is ground.
Either of the left pins may work for SPIDIF, I only tried the one. Hope this helps.

Other Thoughts: I'm not really using the bundled software for anything so I can't really comment on its functionality.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Sound

Pros: -quality sound for music, games and movies
-easy installation
-asus quality
-hard to find a better sound card for the price

Cons: -software can be a little difficult to learn

Other Thoughts: Upgraded my sound by installing this along with some Klipsch 2.1 speakers and wow what a difference. Was using onboard sound with a pair of old Logitech speakers. Noticeable difference immediately. Looked for a decent sound card under $100 and finally decided on this one.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Sound is awesome compared to the On-Board. I would highly recommend for anyone using their computer in a Home Theater setup.

Cons: Manual is poor. I spent two days trying to get sound via HDMI from my video card to the Home Theater Receiver. The fix was disgustingly simple, and the settings should be in the manual. I had to figure this out on my own.

Other Thoughts: I only dropped one egg due to the issue with the manual.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat first impressions

Pros: Significant difference versus my onboard audio (VIA HD audio on a P7H55 motherboard). Youtube videos and music sound the same for the most part but it makes a HUGE difference in games (Battlefield 3 beta sounds AMAZING). It flawlessly plays explosions, gunfire, footsteps, voices, and tons of subtle sounds simultaneously as opposed to my onboard sound where one grenade would blur out everything else. It also plays subtle sounds I didn't even knew existed until i found out what I was missing. I finally have surround sound that works (sounds behind me come out the back speakers, and sound in front of me come out the front, etc) whereas with onboard sound that claimed to be 7.1, the same sound came out each speaker and there was no distinguishing between where gunfire was coming from. I'd give a full description of how much better this card is compared to my horrible onboard but there's a 1000 character limit on this space.

Cons: UPS doesn't ship on weekends lol. Seriously though, there really isn't anything negative about the card itself, although the driver and sound editing is kind of confusing and doesn't come with much explanation. It works fine but working with the advanced options is a pain.

Other Thoughts: why is it 4 eggs, not 5? because if this was 5/5 eggs, then you would have rate the $200 professional cards 6/5 eggs and that isn't possible.

To anyone who complains about drivers not working:
It really isn't that difficult to install the drivers. I have windows 7 64 bit and the drivers work perfectly. All I did was go into device manager, disabled all the sound devices installed, restarted, went into the bios, disabled onboard audio again within the bios, turned off my computer, plugged in the xonar d1 card, booted up again, installed driver, and done! Not that difficult, just make sure to disable onboard sound first.

4 out of 5 eggsGood card

Pros: Sounds great.

Cons: See other *

Other Thoughts: Be sure to disable your on board sound before installing this one, as it may create conflicts. This may be why some people are having trouble. Also install in safe-mode, otherwise you may have issues. Be forewarned--Asus online sound card drivers come in a rar. format. While I am quite sure there is a good program out there for this, I have not been able to find one that doesn't want to download a bunch of junk on your computer. Good luck with that one.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome card/ max fail drivers

Pros: Sound quality on this card is amazing, i have it playing over a 5.1 HT setup and it is night and day from the onboard sound processing. DD Live is amazing for all games.

Cons: Drivers from Asus for all xonar are complete junk. there are open source "unified xonar" drivers out there that solved all issues i had.

Other Thoughts: Asus, why mud your name with terrible drivers? The quality of the board is top notch, but 3rd grade coding on the driver and UI
