The Xonar DG sound card combines Dolby Headphone 5.1 high definition surround sound with ASUS’ own GX2.5 gaming audio engine and an on-board headset amplifier. These result in accurate and deep audio that brings every nuance and sound across fully, making the new Xonar DG an ideal sound card for gamers who want to remain totally aware of their game environments.

ASUS designed GX2.5 to simulate EAX game effects and makes them available on Windows Vista/7 PCs. GX2.5 will automatically emulate the latest EAX technologies without additional software.

High Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) A high SNR rating means less unwanted noise. Therefore the audio is cleaner which translates to better sound quality. The Xonar DG achieves a 105 dB SNR rating for clear audio in games, movies, and music.
Dolby Headphone Dolby Headphone enables up to 7.1 channel surround sound from any set of headphones for an immersive experience.
Headphone AMP The built-in headphone amp supports all gaming headsets up to 150 ohms of impedance and provides greater sound clarity.
GX2.5 GX2.5 automatically emulates the latest EAX technology – up to EAX5.0, to offer advanced environmental audio effects. While enhancing the feeling of actually being in the game, GX2.5 also improves on directional audio information.
Low profile The Xonar DG is bundled with a low profile bracket for compatibility with HTPC cases.

Also a very easy way to boost the gain on the output jacks that goes above and beyond any volume boosting software. Cons: The general web community seems to agree that their drivers are garbage (Newegg wouldn't let me say sheet, which they honestly are). The system it is installed for has both a stereo headphone jack and HDMI to our wall-mounted TV on Windows 7. Any time the TV gets turned off, the default HDMI goes off, so the only other active device, Speakers, comes online. The Xonar software then modifies the output to FrontPanel Headphone, a jack that does not work in this case and is not even plugged in. I get no sound to headphones unless I manually change it with no fix. Other Thoughts: I have spent a few hours attempting to fix this issue. It's not listed in their support, and google is only showing me lots of people with the same problem with bogus suggestions to fix the problem. There wasn't really much difference (maybe a little clearer at loud volume on the high end), but I guess its nice taking the audio processing off the cpu. Cons: Don't like how it handles the microphone input: cannot turn the gain up as high as with my onboard. Doesn't bother me enough to take off an egg though. WOW I did not realize all the subtle sounds, the clairity, the audio positioning ques and music in games that I was missing by using the onboard audio. No more! This thing is WELL worth the 30.00. Software isn't bloated and easy to install for the most part Cons: A few of the software settings takes some time to get used to to figure out where each setting is Other Thoughts: Bought it for a build for a friend of mines. Very value oriented and works great. He had one problem on software side of it involving the mic. My peeps hear me better with no extra noises on their in. I'm very pleased with this headset. Cons: My only grip would be that the dongle can be somewhat bothersome and get in your way with intense game play but not worth taking another egg away for a great headset. Other Thoughts: I did have to read online and figure out how to get my mic to work. Just unplug your battery pack from the controller, power back on, mic should work. This card removed all the static I had with using onboard sound. Cons: Didn't have any useful combo deals available.( just the truth, I love combos!)
