Get the drop on opponents with improved audio positioning and bask in game music with crystal-clear 118dB SNR sound. All is done by the creators of Xonar Xense (2011 CES Innovations Award winner) and Xonar Essence One (2012 CES Innovations Award winner). The commitment of the Xonar team delivers leading-performance gaming products, merged with the excitement of a unique, stylish and gamer-focused design. ROG Xonar Phoebus, named after the Greek god of the sun and music, comes with exclusive ROG Command technology, Hyper Grounding technology, EMI-shielding and top notch components, combined with the latest Dolby surround enhancement to ensure you hear exactly what game designers want you to hear.

  • newegg ROG Command Technology Boosts In-game Voice Beyond excellent sound quality, ROG Xonar Phoebus gives you clean and seamless communications for a totally immersive experience. World-exclusive ROG Command technology was specifically developed by the Xonar team to bring effective noise cancelation to a gaming soundcard set. Intelligent sound detection algorithms analyze sound detected by both the external microphone and one of the micro-mics on the control box to cancel out environmental noise. Array microphones (two on the dedicated control box) form a virtual 30?cone of precise voice capture. As a result, ROG Xonar Phoebus enables up to 50% ambient noise reduction, effectively turning loud locations such as LAN parties into something as quiet as a library.
  • newegg Embrace exceptional sound quality for the win The PCM1796 digital-to-analog converter on ROG Xonar Phoebus delivers clear and crisp 118dB SNR high fidelity audio. The new soundcard therefore outperforms competing gaming audio products by a factor of four, and onboard audio by an impressive 32 times. It also excels in total harmonic distortion (THD) performance, with a miniscule 0.00039% of sound output experiencing distortion. Noise-blocking multi-layer PCB is designed with hyper grounding technology for clear sound. Stylish and efficient EMI shield blocks electromagnetic interference to help provide cleaner audio. The top-flight TPA6120A2 headphone amplifier on ROG Xonar Phoebus drives up to 600 ohm impedance for genuinely impactful headphone output. Three different gain settings cater to various headphone impedance levels, with aesthetic lighting that changes accordingly: blue for ‹64 ohms and red for the two settings over 64 ohms.
  • newegg Control Box within Easy Reach Clad in the trademark ROG red and black color scheme, the ROG Xonar Phoebus control box offers gamers improved response and convenience. Connected to the card via the back I/O, the control box can be placed on the desk so it remains within easy reach. The control box further offers microphone and headphone connectors, making it possible to use even short-wired headsets with ease, as it brings the connectors closer to gamers. Gold-plated jacks ensure greater durability. To help with gaming in the dark, the control box headphone-out lights up green, while the microphone-in glows red! With volume control knob and one-click mute button on the control box, you can easily adjust volume and one-click mute quickly without bringing up game or operating system menus, or having to hunt around for display remote controls.
  • newegg New Xonar Audio Center The latest Xonar audio center brings great sound combined with the spirit of ROG to provide gamers impactful and precise audio control delivered in style. It is designed with a range of effortless adjustment features: with one-click ease, gamers can access features such as I/O settings, volume, game effects, and digital siginal processor (DSP) mode selection. The spacious and intuitive interface further delivers a completely user friendly experience, and gamers can also enable Dolby Home Theater V4 with a click.
  • newegg Dolby Home Theater V4 New Dolby Home Theater V4 enhances surround sound with improved processing and playback. The surround decoder converts 2-channel audio sources to multi-channel allowing you to experience immersive audio through multi-channel playback. Surround virtualizer delivers stunning virtual surround playback for standard stereo headphones or speakers. New Dolby Home Theater V4 also deliver sound enhancement. Intelligent equalizer allows users to adjust tone dynamically with easy visual controls. Dialogue enhancer improves premium clarity for in-game communications. And Volume leveler helps maintain chosen volume consistently across audio sources.
  • newegg GX 3.0 Game Audio Engine The GX 3.0 game audio engine boosts your performance with better legacy EAX compatibility and immersive surround sound enhancement.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrific Drivers

Pros: Amazing Quality
Very Sexy Looking Device

Cons: The worst audio drivers ive ever seen.

Other Thoughts: This is a very good card dont get me wrong, but the drivers are terrible. Ive had issues with games not having sound and youtube or other website also not having sound untill i restart my computer. I did find a fix after a while but i still would look into something different.

4 out of 5 eggsNice card

Pros: - Nice sound quality, and a fair amount of options to tweak sound through the phoebus driver and the dolby settings.

- Supports 7.1 analog, or optical through spdif.

- Noise cancelling headphones box seems decent... I don't really use it, but seemed to work well enough when I tested it

Cons: The newest driver (still several months old) have been working fine for me. That said, they are very slow to release drivers, and I'd like to feel like they support the card better.

1 out of 5 eggsOkay card, awful drivers

Pros: Analog 5.1
Decent sound if you can get around the godawful drivers

Cons: Horrific drivers.
Terrible Manufacturer support.
Random popping noises (due to faulty drivers) that cause audio channels to shift around while using 5.1 analog.
Line noise leaking in from the 1x PCIE bus (more a mobo issue though for $200 I'd have expected better line noise isolators)

Other Thoughts: Note to Vista users: No new drivers in 8+ months. None in the forseeable future. Support is nonexistent (on the Vista OS front) on the ASUSTek forums (go there if you want to read on the plethora of issues due to drivers with this card.)

New drivers however for Win 7 / Win 8 / Win XP (seriously)

Definitely stay away if you're using Windows Vista. Buyer beware if you're a Win 7 / Win 8 / Win XP user. Have had this card for almost a year now; and in that time I've been using BETA drivers for 8+ months due to ASUS not pushing out signed and solid drivers.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Drivers

Pros: -Construction looks great / solid
-Lit headphone & microphone jacks are nice since the backs of most computers are in the shadows
-Sounded great on my 5.1 Surround
-Excellent packaging

Cons: -Faulty Drivers
-Had to RMA was obviously unusable within first hour of use.

The installation of this card was a breeze and the drivers installed without a hitch. I powered everything back on, tested it with some music first, sounded great, then I loaded up teamspeak and all my buddies sounded great. I then loaded a game... No in game audio. I tried another game... audio worked. I assumed it was a game specific issue. After playing the game where the audio worked for about an hour, ALL my audio cut out. The only way to get it working again was to either restart or disable / enable the soundcard under windows.

I played this game for a little bit, then it started only working in 1 application at a time. If I had a game running my web browser audio wouldn't work, or if I had teamspeak going no other audio would play besides it.

That's when I decided it was time to return the card.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!!!!

Pros: makes every little sound clear as can be

Cons: is hard to fit on the board with my sli set up but only because I use aftermarket fans on the gtx 680s.

Other Thoughts: If you are an audiophile this card is a must

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Sound quality.
Looks amazing in a rog themed build.
Can pump out crazy volume.

Cons: It requires a 6 pin to power it
A little pricey but this is for enthusiasts.

Other Thoughts: I used to not care to much about audio. But I went all out on a build recently and decided to have a sound card to try out the 7.1 channel audio. When I listen to normal stuff now it seems so different. The audio is awesome but you need the headphones/set to go with it. Awesome card.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Sounds great with my Sennheiser Momentum's. This being my first DAC I'm not an expert but I will say I will never rely on a motherboard for audio again.

Cons: Newegg has it tagged as 96KHz... It is the same as the Essence 192KHz.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Read lots of negative reviews and problems all over the internet. I decided to try it because i was about to through my Tiamat 7.1 out the windows (onboard sound does no justice for these headphones).

Just so happens a new driver was released 2 days before i received my sound card. Plopped it in my system, installed the driver. A few little driver tweaks and I have never heard sound out of a game this good in my life. I literally duck when i hear bullets whiz by in BF3.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I think some people having issues need to be mindful of the slot they place the card in in their motherboard. I purposely sandwiched it between my video cards in a slot that DOESNT share a IRQ with anything else to avoid issues. Also make sure you have quality power going tot he 6-pin power connector.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing sound card

Pros: This card is great, it has amazing sound my Sennheiser PC350's sound 100 times better on this sound card then with my Creative X-FI titanium. I would recommend this sound card to anyone looking for high quality sound for games, movies and music.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Mic and sound work perfect in BF3 and all the other games I play (CS:GO, SC2, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, etc.)

I hear absolutely NO feed back, even when my GPU is running at 100% and overclocked. I do have the Asus GTX 680 with the metal back plate and I know it helps but I also have an HD 7950 (which has no back plate) and I still hear nothing, no static, buzz, just the game. On extremely quiet scenes its literally no sound coming through the headphones/speakers.
