Card & Tech Support DOA
- Pros: None except that it looks to be high Quality
- Cons: DOA. Their tech support is only available by email. The back and forth via email was just taking too long. Problem never solved
Pricey for the chipset
- Pros: I don't own this card so I won't give it a bad "star" rating, but I DO have a comment. See Other Thoughts below.
- Cons: See below.
- Other Thoughts: The chipset this card uses is the C-Media CI8770. That's the same chipset used on much less expensive sound cards sold by Newegg -- such as the Striker Extreme from HT Omega ($79.99), Diamond's XtremeSound XS71DDL ($49.99), and AuzenTech's own XPlosion 7.1 ($84.99). True, unlike the Diamond card (but like the Striker and the XPlosion), this card has all-solid capacitors. And (unless I'm misinterpreting the specs) unlike the Striker and the Diamond cards, it has upgradable opamps. In addition, it apparently boasts a couple of sound processing technologies that the other cards lack.
The Bluegears b-Enspirer sound card, at $104.99, has the better C-Media CMI8788 chipset (but only electrolytic capacitors and without the opamps). The HT Omega Claro (at $159.99) has both the better C-Media CMI8788 chipset and all-solid capacitors, although it, too, lacks the opamps.
Given it's price-point at $129.99, I have to wonder about it's price/performance ratio.

Incompatible with Vista?
- Pros: Sounds very good in 2 channel mode
- Cons: Simply does not work in 5.1 dolby mode. Once the supplied c-media software is installed, it stops working completely. Emails to Auzentech have not been returned. Will be returning this one.
What Quality????
- Pros: Fast shipping! German sounding name......not a Mercedes------
- Cons: Never did work right. It always seemed to have driver issues. The optical input always dropped out. The channels seemed to be confused. It would run for a while then it would quit and you would have to reinstall it or trouble shoot it. It is a real pain in the but! Don't buy this. Stay with the tried and true brands.
- Other Thoughts: It just finally messed up the operating system! I could not get any program to execute as long as the drivers for this Explosion were installed at all. This was touted as a much better quality board than the Creative brand even though they both run the same chip. They were right: The board didn't smash as near as I thought it would after I ran over it with my car.......Piece of junk.....
Sounds good, but...
- Pros: When installed under Windows XP this card performs well. Good sound quality, and straightforward installation.
- Cons: The manufacturer claims windows 7 support, however after three clean installof 7 I was never able to get the digital out to work.
- Other Thoughts: If this is your fisrt attempt into home theater, make sure your 3rd party dvd software supports DTS. I bought a new Blue Ray for this project, and the software was too old to provide digital sound. Updating to the latest version resolved this.
If you expect timely technical support for a product you bought, pass on this card. The only support option is through E-Mail, and I have been waiting 72+ hours for a response.
