Best combination of gaming performance and audio quality

Pros: X-Fi's widespread game support in a better manufactured board than Creative will ever produce. Amped headphone jack with upgradable op-amps. Actually supports the impressive list of features on the box... unlike Xonar. Auzentech has a tweaked version of Creative's drivers that address most, if not all, Vista compatability issues (I use Vista 64 and have not had a problem in any game whatsoever).
Cons: Form factor will decive people into thinking this is another Creative board with no audio processor of it own (like the X-Fi Exteme Gamer).
Other Thoughts: This board measures up favorably to the Xonar Essence and has the benefit of much better game compatablity and better driver support as well.

Pros: I got into high end audio in the 1980's when we would never consider listening to a cd since it was just not done. Since then I have gotten into computers. What a relief! My expenditures are about ten percent of what they used to be. But I still have an old high end system for audio. My computer is just used for gaming. I replaced a titanium x-fi since the explosions in games were just too loud and there was no satisfactory way to adjust for it. I did not buy this from newegg since I also wanted to get the upgraded op amp OPA 637AU and they do not carry it. Swapping the op amp was easy. I never listened to it with the original opamp so I have no comment on it. I usually do not listen to music on my computer but I tried it out and it was fantastic. Very analog sound. The swapped out op amp works on the front outs and not the headphones which have a seperate dedicated op amp. The sound for both the headphones and speakers in my audio system was good.
Cons: Here are two cons: The manual discusses using balanced and unbalanced manual and stereo microphone inputs. I use balanced inputs in my audio system so I understand them but most people do not. Simply put there is a jumper on the board for unbalanced and balanced audio. The diagram does not show that this is obviously a jumper. If you have a regular system you do not have to touch the jumper. It is set for mono microphone in with a regular headset microphone. If you want to get into "balanced" audio (and it is better) this may be a cool place to start. The second con is that the microphone input is tempermental. I had to wiggle the mike plug to get it so that it would not crackle.
Other Thoughts: When installing it I did not use the CD. Just went to the website and downloaded the software. Then I did the "full install". Mistake. It loaded all of the Creative bloatware which took some time to remove. Gaming has been very good. EAX works well. Very funny thing. My video card now runs ten degrees C cooler! The slots are not nearby. The creative card may have been a furnace.

Very good sounding card but has driver issues to work out
Reviewed By: on 2/2/2010

Pros: Excellent sound quality, especially on the headphone output jack. I also bought Creative Titanium, and although cards have similar specs, sound quality with Creative on the analog output is much worse.
Cons: The computer will not go to sleep when DDL or DTS is enabled. I contacted customer support and they admitted the problem. They said that a new driver is in the works. Hopefully they are right. However, reading forums I understand that the problem has been around for a while.

Pros: when it works its great but the drivers are so buggy in 64 bit winn 7 its driving me nuts.
Cons: drivers in win 7 64 bit are buggy, works sometimes then it doesnt. constantly have to reboot and mess around with settings depending on what isnt working now. I uninstalled and reinstalled many times no dice. im running socket 775 geforce gtx 280 . kaspersky antivirus battlefield 2 and left for dead 2. if you have a similar setup forget it .
Other Thoughts: would rate it 5 drools if not for the buggy drivers.
