5 out of 5 eggsGive it a Break for $6.99

Pros: The C-media chip provides better than on board sound. EAX works in games. The drivers from the manufacturer site work fine. Great if you are using headphones only like I am. I've had no Windows conflicts (XP Pro SP2). Did I say it was $6.99?

Cons: Come on folks its $6.99 and it works. For people having problems try disabling your on board sound in the system bios. No Cons.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a PC for my son a year ago that we built out of on hand parts. Quickly upgraded it including an Audigy 2 ZS and this went in a box. I just got ready to upgrade my personal development machine to a second boot of VISTA and the upgrade advisor said a no go for my SB Live 5.1 so I popped this back in because it was on the shelf. No problems. Great. Did I say it was $6.99

3 out of 5 eggscard works with Linux & windows

Pros: works with Linux. I've bought 6 of these for upgrades of P3 PC's, where I install Linux or Windows.

Cons: I don't use the driver CD-ROM because Win XP doesn't need it & Linux is too difficult to download a driver special to this card. So sound is so so.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid at all costs!

Pros: None!

Cons: Thought this would be a decent value card using a decent CMEDIA chipset. I was wrong. It had better than onboard sound quality but serious driver conflicts that would reboot Windows XP randomly. Replaced it with some old Aureal II sound card I had gathering dust and viola! No more reboots.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this and any other card like this. You'll find some from different brands like Sabrent but if it has EC-SC73861 on the front it will be the same card.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Win2K friendly

Pros: CHEAP

Cons: You get what you pay for. I had to go out on-line to get the correct drivers for a Win2K box. CD-Rom did NOT include drivers for Win2K...Wanted me to use drivers for WinME..not the same OS. Followed the instructions and as expected it failed. On line however had the correct drivers

Other Thoughts: Be nice if the correct software came with the product...NOT Newegg's fault!

1 out of 5 eggsinbetween blue screens it's not bad

Pros: when it works isn't bad.

Cons: I have winxppro sp2. The drivers for this card work, although if you update your computer regularly the driver starts confliciting, with the system services. I have yet to find the service which is conflicting, so i can disable it.

3 out of 5 eggsWorth the price

Pros: Quite cheap, slim design.

Cons: Requires alot of cpu cycles, lackluster drivers, dull bass and crackly high's.

Other Thoughts: If your motherboard has no onboard sound, this is basically onboard quality sound on a small pci card. It has dull sound and when I say its worth the price, if you look at the price youll see how much of a sound card it is. Dont expect good surround sound, or clean gaming sound.
