5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works - Installed on older AMD board with Windows 8 - drivers installed from disk in compatibility mode only. Took 5 minutes, only because I was trying to find the HD Audio pin-out and had to remove the card to look again - there is no HD audio pin-out. No big deal, cheap card. There are pin-outs for basic speakers, though. I'm only using one output - I did not buy this for surround sound, just sound, and for that it works fine.

Cons: No HD Audio pin-out

2 out of 5 eggsGreat if you don't mind manually installing the driver

Pros: Works as described
Looks good
has lots of ports

Cons: Windows 7 could not find drivers for sound card

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 should be able to find a default driver for a modern day sound card. It did for my other generic sound card and my Rocketfish. Maybe I am being a little harsh with this review but this is a pet peeve of mine. Installing drivers from CD is unnecessary and a pain. The customer ie you, will have to trust the manufacturer to keep the driver up to date if you ever upgrade your OS or this sound card will be useless. Also, if you lose or misplace the driver cd and for some reason cannot find the driver from the Rocketfish website you are stuck with a useless sound card.

4 out of 5 eggsGood sound card

Pros: Inexpensive, works great, packaged great (as per usual with NewEgg).
I hate to say this and make anyone unsatisfied, but almost every single thing I order from NewEgg is available in the Memphis TN distribution center and being as I live in northeast Alabama, despite the listed "EggSaver" (or something like that) Shipping Saver" price being free and with a forecast delivery of 4-7 days, I always get my stuff the next day. Incredible but it's true.
"Overnight Expedited" for free. Can't beat that.

Cons: Same cons as everyone else concerning the drivers for this card.
These drivers I'm listing work, for a fact, and they're not some kind of goofy 3rd party drivers. They come directly from C-Media's web site.
The problem is, if you just Google for the drivers (using the sensible, logical keywords "CMI 8768 sound card drivers") you get all kinds of junk and don't know what to try.
Here are the authentic drivers, straight from the mfr.
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/en/DownloadCenter_Detail2.aspx

Simply scroll down until you see "CMI8768" (no "+") in the left hand column.
There will be 4 drivers listed. Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8.
Go to your operating system.
Now click on the "Download" on the right hand side.
This will take you to a "login" page.
It's not real.
Enter anything you please to "login".
I used "john@home.com" for a user and "abc' for the password.
Now when you click again it may complain about a blocked pop-up, you must allow this to download the driver. Enter the correct numbers in the Captcha and get your drivers.
Unzip them on your desktop, then install them.
That's it.

Other Thoughts: Despite a little bit of a run-around to get the drivers (why can't they put these on the included CD, for f**k's sake?) After installing the drivers, the card does everything I want. Namely, for sound to come out of my speakers.
I don't need "Dolby 7.1 Theatre Surround Sound" or anything like that, especially out of a 12 dollar sound card.

2 out of 5 eggsBreaks after a while

Pros: Easy Install
Easy to find the drivers...just google it
Worked excellent to pump out 7.1 sound on my sony headset for about 3 months...

Cons: The first time it happened I assumed it was user error and after a couple of hours of fidgeting with the plugs I got it working again

Turns out the parts inside the 5 little holes start to wear away after a while and the sound starts to come out distorted. I need to jingle the cord around now to find the "sweet spot" to get clear sound to come out. You get what you pay for

4 out of 5 eggsIt's cheap. It works.

Pros: Bought this card for about ten bucks after I had problems getting the onboard sound to work on a new Asus mobo. Installation was simple. After some fiddling, the card worked fine. Not much you could complain about here.

Cons: The included CD had nothing on it but the user manual pdf in a couple of different languages. I found the drivers for the card pretty easy but, what it didn't tell you, was that it also included a sound manager program. Almost went nuts trying to tweak the settings until I saw this program running in the background. After that, no problems at all.

Other Thoughts: One egg off just for the obtuseness of the included support materials and for simply being cheap. Having said that, you get what you pay for. Consider this a value if you just want your sound to work.

5 out of 5 eggsNice inexpensive card

Pros: Needed an inexpensive 5.1 card for an HTPC system. This card fit the bill! Works with Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux.

Cons: Can't find anything wrong with it. There is a 'turn on "thump" ' from my speakers. Not sure if it's this card or my PC. I just turn the speakers on after the PC.
