5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great for the money

Pros: Windows 7 64 bit installed automatically, Sound is decent. Worked with my Dell Studio Desktop. Great Price

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This is the first sound the computer has made! My 3d Sound USB c-media adapter was not Windows 7 compatible and the on board Realtek sound card was digital only, no Analog even after messing with their Sound Manager. Which is typical for this dell studio desktop 540.

4 out of 5 eggsaddendum

Pros: In fairness, it seems to work fine in Windows 7, which came on my computer but which I cannot use because it is, after all, Windows 7. But if you use Windows 7 (sigh) this card works just fine.

Cons: see other review

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work in Ubuntu. Period.

Pros: None for me.

Cons: Ubuntu forums are full of complaints about the VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] cards like this. Everyone has tried everything, but nada. I give up.

1 out of 5 eggsNot fit for Server 2008

Pros: It fits the PCIe Slot in the Dell T110-II I am going to be using for remote site servers. Right priced for the needs of a basic sound services on a PCIe chassis

Cons: Totally Falky behavior under Windows Server 2008 R2... I got 2 cards for two servers; One of the cards sort of works, but LINE In controls are a pain, with a lot of oversaturation of the channels. Second card never worked in either server.

I am hoping someone at Rosewill will read this and send me drivers that work properly otherwise I am on the auto notify list at Newegg for when the SIIG 5.1 PCIe cards become available again

Other Thoughts: Rosewill: Drivers are always an issue with any card, but I was expecting good things from Rosewill because I had rock solid success with other cards (PCI Serial and PCI USB cards) on Windows Server systems in the past.

At this point, I would even settle for BETA drivers from Rosewill for Windows Server 2008 R2

1 out of 5 eggsFlaky software on Win7

Pros: Small form factor. I purchased it to send 7.1 surround from my media center PC to my Dolby receiver via optical cable.

Cons: Plugged it in via optical cable to my digital receiver/amplifier. Loaded the drivers and software. I clicked on 8 channel sound but everything seems to be truncated to the 2 front channels when running the included 7.1 speaker test. I haven't tried the analog outputs yet but I really didn't want to go analog. I'm using Windows 7 32 bit.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
When you play something that has a 7.1 audio stream, will it still only play through 2 channels? Check to see if the receiver has a firmware update. I know some do have firmware updates that will fix issues like that. If you are still having issues after that, please contact the Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at techsupport@rosewill.com.
Thanks,
Rosewill Customer Care

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but?

Pros: It works

Cons: But it doesn't work well. Some games have a delayed sound (Far Cry) and some were missing gun-fire sounds (Serious Sam 2) even after the acceleration rate was changed in the dxdiag.

The software was also confusing.

Going back to on-board sound, maybe it doesn't sound as good (I can't tell) but at least it worked.

Other Thoughts: The computer the card was installed in was a Dell Dimension 4700 with 3.4GHz HT CPU and 4GB DDR2 memory.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked Great

Pros: Simple, just as described.

Worked perfectly, no issues once drivers were installed, replaced old integrated sound card which ports had burnt out.

Cons: Only reason I reduced 1 Egg is cause the packaging was already opened, it seemed like Newegg had sent me a Returned Item. The yellow seal on the packaging when you are taking out the sound card had obviously been opened before, but none the less, the item still worked.
