Great Little Camera
- Pros: I received this camera as a Christmas gift with a 2gb memory card. The 8mp photos are of stunning quality as long as you change the default setting (See other thoughts below). The 5X optical zoom is a nice plus too. Audio and Video quality is surprisingly good as well. The camera is small and light enough to be carried in a shirt pocket. Image stabilization works very well in both Photo and Video mode. The camera is "All Weather" and "Splash Proof". It has a very large LCD display screen.
- Cons: There is a 10 second limit to videos made in the highest quality mode. Why? It has nothing to do with storage capacity. No limit in lesser quality video modes. Odd.
- Other Thoughts: The default setting of "HQ" photo mode produced 8mp photos which had some compression artifacts. Changing the default from "HQ" to "SHQ" (Super High Quality) totally fixed this issue. Photos in this mode are stunning with absolutely no problems. File sizes remain reasonable at about 3.5mb. The lack of an optical view finder was fairly easy to get used to.
Some compromizes, but overall a winner
- Pros: * optical image stabilization
* 5x zoom
* very compact and portable
* water and weather resistant
- Cons: * no manual or semi-manual control (aperture priority, etc)
* tiny sensor (like all compact digicams) can lead to noise in low-light photos
* no RAW capability (like most non-DSLR digicams)
- Other Thoughts: Every compact (and especially ultra-compact) camera is a collection of features and compromises. I usually shoot a DSLR in RAW mode, but I wanted a small POCKETABLE (as in front jeans pocket) camera that could go anywhere. Yeah, I wish this had better low-light performance in terms of image noise, but that's part of the deal when the sensor size is smaller than the average fingernail. And I've got both Noise Ninja and Neat Image to deal pretty effectively with noise.
Here's the bottom line for me - the best pocket cam is THE ONE YOU HAVE WITH YOU WHEN YOU FIND THAT YOU WANT TO TAKE A PHOTO. The very compact size of the Stylus 830, coupled with the weather sealing (which also means "pocket lint sealing") means I almost always have this thing shoved in my front pocket, ready to use at a moment's notice. The battery could last a little longer, but 3rd party spares are cheap and easy to find online. Given the feature set, the Stylus 830 makes for a truly "take everywhere" pocket cam.

Great pics
- Pros: Good brand, takes nice pictures, simple to use
- Cons: Uses the expensive XD cards
Nice camera for the money.
- Pros: This camera is light weight and compact, easy to carry in shirt pocket, etc., and easy to use. Picture quality at SHQ is excellent. Splash proof, which came in handy on beach in Bahamas, when it got splashed with salt water, with no ill effects.
- Cons: Weak flash in low light situations, as is most compact cameras.
A couple of settings other than automatic, but mainly a automatic camera.
- Other Thoughts: Great as a second camera.

- Pros: Easy to use, great pictures, doesnt feel cheap
- Cons: stupid non standard usb cable, which will not be a problem once i get my memory card in. Should have a charge station instead of having to take the battery out to charge.
- Other Thoughts: For the money i think this is a great camera. im upgrading from a 3.0MP HP and i notice a huge difference.
