You lead an active life; your camera should be able to keep up. Now it can. The Stylus 1050SW from Olympus is designed to meet or exceed industry standards for shock, water and low temperature resistance. It is can be dropped from 5 feet or be submerged up to 10 feet. You can even use it in cold weather, down to 14°F/-10°C.
None of that would matter if it wasn’t a great camera. The 10.1MP sensor sits behind a 38-114mm equivalent lens set with a 3x optical zoom. The 2.7” HyperCrystal II LCD viewfinder has 230K pixels for great image quality for both picture-taking and reviewing shots you’ve already taken. Digital image stabilization keeps the picture steady, even if your hands aren’t.
The camera has 27 shooting modes including 2 Auto modes, a movie mode and 22 theme modes. The theme modes range from portrait to fireworks to specialty modes like behind glass, documents and underwater snapshot. No matter where you go and what you do, the 1050SW will stay the course and take great pictures.
Pros: This camera replaced a 7 year old digital dinasour so it doesn't take much to impress me as far as features on this camera go. Most notable is the ruggedness of the camera. It is waterproof, drop-proof and can withstand the outdoors much better than ol' dino did.
Cons: Wasn't smart enough to decipher the whole specifications list to see that it comes with a Micro SD to xD card adapter.
Other Thoughts: There is no need to waste money on yet another memory card type, this camera comes with a Micro SD adapter so there is no need to spend big bucks on an xD card like I did.

Almost Completely Satisfied
Pros: Everything about this camera was awesome like waterproof, shock-proof, videos outstanding, picture quality awesome. And I loved the menu also.
Cons: Slow shutter speed. It seems that Olympus just can't get this one right.
Other Thoughts: Sadly returned it because I need a faster shutter speed.

what more could you ask for (first impressions)
Pros: Waterproof, shockproof, and freeze proof- what more could you ask for. I can't comment on the picture quality as I have not copied the pictures to my computer yet (Ubuntu did not auto-mount the XD card when the camera was connected via USB), nor have I had time to thoroughly read through the manual yet, but my first impressions are very favorable. The tap function is novel but its implementation seems to be only for show. It works and works well but it is no substitute for the actual buttons that control a majority of the cameras functions. It's small and compact and the flash works well. The macro modes are very useful when taking up-close pictures, and the led light makes all the difference when taking these pictures.
Cons: Tap mode doesn't control enough functions of the camera. Picture quality of previous models has been less that of other comparably priced cameras. My only other con is that the delay between I push the shutter button and when the camera takes the picture is too long. This could be that I have chosen the correct settings but I feel that a camera that costs over $250 should not have this issue out of the box.
Other Thoughts: You would have to look long and hard to find a camera that has all the ruggedness and features that this camera has. I've read several reviews on the 850 and 1030. Most are in agreement that these cameras have compromised picture quality for other features, but conclude that overall these cameras are a great total package. As for the 1050 can only assume that it will follow in the footsteps of the previous models. Free 2 gig XD card made this a sweet deal. As use this camera more I will submit another review
