1 out of 5 eggs"Waterproof", but....

Pros: None

Cons: I've owned a lot of different cameras, and while this one can take pictures underwater, the quality of the images tend to be horrible in my experience. Even worse, the controls are annoying, and regular pictures come out even worse. I had an old 6mp camera that can do better than this thing.

I'll never buy an Olympus product again.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk; for lack of better words

Pros: I used it twice.
On Memorial day the buttons would become useless. Then would go back to work later on.
In July, camera took water in with only 3 feet of water

Cons: Cute

Other Thoughts: Too cheap, but useless. I recommend you spend a little more money with another one

4 out of 5 eggsCamera 4 stars, Newegg 2 stars

Pros: 1. Is actually waterproof (to at least to 5'). Carried it underwater for a half hour in Cozumel. No fogging, no problems.
2. Takes decent pics, especially for the price.
3. Comes with USB and A/V cables.
4. Decent number of camera setting (resolution, WB, exposure compensation, AF modes, shooting modes, etc).

Cons: 1. Dim screen in sunlight. Despite a handy brightness boost button I had a hard time ascertaining what the camera was pointing at underwater on a sunny day.
2. The tiny cover over the USB port is impossible to open one-handed. It is not spring-loaded so you must hold down the tiny slide button with one hand and pry it open with a sharp tool with the other. Maybe that will loosen up with time?
3. Auto white balance doesn't work well in incadecent - too yellow-greenish. Can be set manually which works good.
4. Lame Newegg customer service.

Other Thoughts: This was purchased as a "combo" deal that included a 4GB microSDHC card, but the camera uses "xD Picture Card". The SDHC card did come with an adapter, but for microSD, so that didn't fit either. The instructions say you can use SDHC cards with an adapter, but the adapter they show was not micro SD. So I figured I got the wrong adapter.

Contacted Newegg and was told they "don't guarantee the compatibility of combo items", that "they are only bundled for price reduction" and that "I would have to contact the respective manufacturers".

OK... I admit I didn't read the fine print on combo deals, but come on! When you sell something as a package there is at least SOME degree of compatibility implied. Do you just take random items off of shelves and arbitrarily bundle them together with no forethought??

Newegg has always been good to me, until now. I've since ordered the correct adapter from someone else for < 5 bucks. Really, was that worth souring a long-time customer?

3 out of 5 eggsOk

Pros: Ok price for a non-telescoping lens (telescoping lens cameras always eventually get stuck and break!), waterproof cam.

Cons: This camera is pretty "cheap", you can feel it in the buttons and case. Plus, no cover for the lens will eventually be a major (scratch/replacement) problem.

Other Thoughts: Still a decent deal for a young teenager... just need to figure out a solution for the exposed lens???

The one other draw back of Olympus cameras is the somewhat non-standard memory card.

1 out of 5 eggsComes open unexpectedly

Pros: Nice form factor, low price point, no bulky extending parts

Cons: Comes open unexpectedly

Other Thoughts: Gave this to my dad for Christmas. He took it snorkeling and it opened underwater without him touching it. Too bad Olympus doesn't cover liquid damage.

1 out of 5 eggsBeing cheap can get you burned...

Pros: Waterproof, price

Cons: I'm a pretty cheap person, always looking for a deal. I really don't like paying for "hype" and what I might perceive to be non value-added features or qualities. Sometimes I get burned. This is one of those times. I bought this camera for what I thought was a very low price. With all the advances in photo technology in cell phones and whatnot, I'd figure you can buy pretty much any camera out there and you'd get very good results. I bought this item because I go surf fishing here in California and wanted to take pictures without risking damaging the camera. So I bought this camera thinking it would replace my 5 year old digital camera w the added bonus of being waterproof. Well I ended up taking my first pictures with it on a business trip to Chicago. I'm now just looking at the pictures. They're terrible. Just terrible. I would have been MUCH better off taking my 5 year old camera. This camera is literally money down the drain for me. I'll probably donate it to a charity or something

Other Thoughts: I have a $2000 Canon DSLR camera set up as well, so I'm not exactly a photography novice (although I'm not an expert either). I'm always impressed how other people's $250 point and shoot camera takes just as good of pictures as my Canon. The benefits of the DSLR are it's ability to be configured with lenses and to change exposure settings. But for many applications, the point and shoot cameras take fantastic pictures. But the lesson here is that the lower-end point and shoots really do have a drop off in picture quality. If you're one of those people like me who think that the higher end price points are just for suckers, you might want to reconsider. I can tell you that my next point and shoot will almost certainly be over the $200 mark.

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't be happier

Pros: Inexpensive on the Shell-Shocker deal in early December. Apparently waterproof (we sure got it wet, with no ill effects). Takes fine shapshots and shoots great video with sound. Ours arrived with the Olympus Xd to Mini SD adapter, and a 4GB SDHC card - so no memory shortage. Light, small, and pocket size. Not much to complain about! Typically great Newegg service.

Cons: Limited zoom, but given the camera's water-resistant build (and sub sixty-buck price), it's hard to knock it for that.

Other Thoughts: We bought this knowing we had a beach trip on the Caribbean coast of Mexico coming up - and thought it would be fun to have something we could take snorkeling, sailing, swimming, and to the pool to catch a few action shots. This little camera really fit the bill and did a fine job. We bought an extra battery elsewhere for - four bucks - and kept it charged in reserve, but it was never needed. Keep the wrist strap around your wrist, because the little camera is easy to drop with wet hands and lots going on around you!

2 out of 5 eggsIt is waterproof but not much else

Pros: It is waterproof, so I used it to take pictures while we were sailing. It worked well for this purpose.

Cons: The picture quality is extremely poor even in bright sunlight. The pictures are grainy and grayish, with very poor color reproduction. The recycling time is very long, takes several seconds between pictures. Battery life is very limited, one charge was good for about 60 pictures only.

4 out of 5 eggsOlympus X-560W

Pros: Great Price for waterproof camera, 4 GB Card and adapter included, picturers so far under different lighting coming out
crisp and color true

Cons: non standard battery, probably costly to replace and cannot use standard SD cards,
if you do not want to remove the uSD card from the adapter you need to transfer pictures by cable

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Camera

Pros: Price, decent pictures, waterproof.
Works as expected picture quality is comparable to the sony cybershot i bought last year for around $100. Had a lot of fun with this when i took my kids to a hotel over the holiday and got to play with the camera in the pool.

Cons: Battery life isn't great, but extra batteries are cheap enough i could have a spare for about $10.

Takes about a second to actually focus before you take the picture, if you or the target is moving a blurry picture is the result.

LCD screen doesn't show the pictures very well, look much better when loaded onto a computer.

Other Thoughts: Picked this up in early november for $60 shipped, overall I'm happy with it, well worth what i had spent on it. Replaced a sony cybershot that my son had dropped on the lens and jammed it so i needed something a little more durable and this fit just right. Probably wouldn't have bought this at the suggested price, but the deal i got was a steal.
